Description
One of the last images that I've taken with my MT-24EX -one of the flash heads no longer fires. Considering that I dropped the flash two years ago I can't be too disappointed.Update: I took the batteries out of the controller for an hour hoping that there was a logic problem with the flash and I might be able to get it to reset. As of this writing both heads are working...
Tech specs: Canon 40D (F10, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens (@4x) + a diffused MT-24EX macro twin flash (-1 FEC).

Thanks
It died a day later. I used the mount off of the dead flash to hack my 270 EX so I can use it on the MT-24EX's flash mount -hope to test it in the field tomorrow.

Definately- the more limited the equipment, the more one is forced to be creative.

Thanks
It finally did die. I'm fairly certain that it's the controller, and it would probably cost me close to the price of a new one to get it fixed. I'm currently exploring another option -I've hacked a 270EX so I can connect it to the MT-24EX's flash mount. I hop to filed test it tomorrow.

Yup -definitely missed it...
I took the dead MT-24EX flash head apart, removed the bottom plastic piece that has the tilt / swivel mount on it, and used gaffers tape to connect it to the bottom of a 270EX. So now I can clip the 270EX into the MT-24EX's flash mount and with a remote cord get it out on the end of my MPE-65mm. What's left of the MT-24Ex is sitting in my junk hardware closet. After I have a chance to field test it I'll post images of what I've rigged up. The tests I did this afternoon at my kitchen table looked very promising, but I need to see how it's going to perform shooting an actual critter.
I'm not advising ANYONE to take apart their MT-24EX -my only reason for doing this hack is because I don;t want to spend over $600 USD for a new macro flash. I don't see any sense in having it fixed -would be almost as much as a new one. Plus I've wanted to mount a single small light source out on the end of my MPE-65mm for quite a while now -it's a proof of concept thing...
