Cheap trick: Put a little honey on a flower in an area where you see a lot of critters feeding and then wait and see who takes the bate...Shot at three times life siz with an MPE-65mm macro lens.

Great shot!
I think it is Polistes gallicus. I found this species a view days ago on the island Rab in Croatia.

The little droplet on her foot...what detail.
We would call these yellowjackets.
At the end of summer, they can be quite intrusive, wanting your food, drink, etc..
Every year I irradicate a nest or two.(NO POISON, just soap and chrisanthemum extract, (Pyrethrine? sp?)or a shovel.
