Description
I saw this wasp on a my rhododendron and decided to take some close ups since it didn't seem to want to fly away (it was alive and moving though). I took a few shots with live view on 2x zoom. It was my first time attempting macro with that setting. I did not have a tripod, but somewhat had my arm resting on the handle of my grill.Paper Wasp

Wow, amazing. I love the way this wasp is looking at the camera, almost posing for the picture. The picture itself looks amazing, and I love the way that you used macro for this, for it really brings it out, and will get peoples attention. The wasp is beautiful also, I love the colors on him. I think the leaf could have been a bit greener, but in all, I am stunned at the beautiful pose, colors, and overall stillness and peace the photo brings out, a very interesting photo at the most, you did a wonderful job on it for sure.

Thank you for the critique and the observation of the leaf - the leaf was dead (and yellow) but you're right that it would look better as a green leaf giving the wasp even more contrast. I'm debating trying to change it. I'd like to keep it natural, but at the same time make a better photo

Lovely picture - not something I thought I would say about a wasp I love the focus and the colours.

lovely shot. I really like the shallow depth of field.

His mandibles catch good light there and it brings attention to his whole head nicely, I thought.
Great shot!

Thank you for the kind observation
It was an overcast day, but that made for great light (though it also forced me to use high ISO). I think it helped light up key parts without over exposing them.

No problem! I see the overcast colors now in the highlights which is lovely - just a nice and soft effect.
You really seem to know your camera very well!

Y'know, usually I'm deathly afraid of wasps/bees - at least when I see them in my vicinity.
This one, however, is somehow adorable, lol.
Love the colors, and especially love the focus on it. Nicely done .

Thank you! I don't like when they fly around me - but this one was stationary, so I was OK with it
