Scared me too -those spiders hunt by jumping and it's not unusual to look through the view finder, not see it, and look up only to have it staring back at you because it's on the lens. Had it jumped at me I would have screamed like a little girl!

They do have eight eyes, but that spider is huge and at four times life size there isn't enough room in the frame to get all of the eyes in the photo. That shot represents a scene that's only about 5mm wide (the thickness of 5 US dimes).
