Description
They look fierce, but they're actually very docile.Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F14, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 1.5x) + a diffused MT-24EX. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.
Technique: When the bee woke up I transferred it to a daisy that I has in a clamp. The critter gave me about a minute to shoot before it fully woke up and flew off.

Amazing shots! well done. Incredibly valuable creatures, bees. A shame what has been happening to them.

Thanks
I'm more concerned for solitary bees like this one because they are actually better pollinators than honeybees and they'll fly in conditions that honeybees won't.

Woke up naturally or from an induced sleep

Always from a natural sleep. I would never risk harming any creature just for a photo.

Depends on the temperature. Sometimes I get several minutes to shoot once they let go of what they were sleeping on, sometimes less.
