Thanks, Sean! I think the BT images are some of the best action illos I've done to date.

Just awesome. I love the over the top nature of this piece. This is quite cool, even though it's inspired by Thundarr, it really reminds me of Beastmaster a bit.

Over the top, huh? I guess it is, a bit.
Most of these Blackthorn pieces have been very action-oriented.

Thanks, Larry!

You are very welcome, yeah, I think this is the most over the top yet.

Aw, shoot. No nude bits! Ah, well. Marvelous work, sir.

Ah, this is for an all-ages book, so it was specifically requested by the authors that the nude snake women be strategically covered.

thanks!

Nice drama. Here you're using ref pics for some of the poses. How often do you find you use refs? You have such dynamic poses, particularly in your comic work, that I think finding refs would be very hard.

dalgoda7 In reply to ElectricGecko [2011-11-07 03:01:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I use refs for about 75% of my 'action' poses, it's just that most of them are ones I shoot (or rather, I pose and my wife shoots) myself.

However, every so often when I need a good female action pose, I'll use because she has a ton of great stuff and usually something that fits what I'm want to get across with only minor changes. So when I use others' stock, I will cite that in my description.

For my sequentials, I'll use references for tough armatures or when I want to get a particular expression/gesture *just so*.

You are dedicated. I use refs for exactly 0% of everything I draw, and all due to sheer laziness. That stock provider looks good, though. Maybe I should start me on some actually knowing what the heck it looks like drawing.

And here I thought I was using refs because *I* was too lazy!

I can generally come up with poses when needed straight out of my head, but sometimes using ref is just more accurate, since my current sequential involves a lot of specific action sequences.

Nah, refs are ALWAYS the right way to go. It takes time to find/generate/consult that stuff. If you're not using a ref, you say "Accuracy be damned!" That's pretty much been my mantra for fifteen years.
