Description
and I are back with another slightly off-kilter genre story. This time, it's pirates! We're operating slightly differently on this one - Larry pulled a Harvey Kurtzman, providing not only the story & script, but the page layout. It's going to be a treat for me, because it's less work!
Hope you enjoy!

Awesome inking work here! How long does all the cross-haching & rendering take you generally?

Thanks! The inking usually takes me about 10-12 hours per page like this.

Thanks, it was an interesting problem as the panel description in the script required both showing the pirate descending the sail, as well as the soldiers below awaiting him.

I did have to get glasses last year for when I'm inking!
Thanks!

It's amazing how much you can fit into one page and it not look a mess. I like how you have the tomahawk hanging out of the page in the last panel.

Thanks, Zoe! I wanted to make sure that the tomahawk came across, as he's about to get busy with it on page three.
This story is testing my ability to work in long shots, for sure! Much of the kudos for that can go to for his layouts!

Oh thats pretty damn good for that amount of detail I think. I spend that amount of time on some of my pages and I keep them pretty simple.

But you've got glorious color, though. If I tried coloring my stuff, it'd take me twice as long and it wouldn't look too good.

Thanks. That's without the color though haha! I'm slow.. I hate coloring actually, it takes me forever and its boring as hell.

This page is a magnificent work of art. I can't believe I had any part in crafting this, this is stunning, absolutely stunning. All your fine attention to detail has paid off. The wind, the rain, the choppy seas, the glint off of the cannonballs for crying out loud. Then you turn to the character work, you make me feel like I have seen these guys on many adventures before, your take on Two-trees, Joyner, and Jenkins has really overwritten how I saw them. You vision in illustrated form has strangled that old ideal, and put something so much better in its place. Thanks a million Chris.

Don't sell yourself short, Larry - you had a ton to do with these pages. And as for the characters, I'm just adding the eyebrows to your concepts.

Well I don't mean to sell myself short, it's just that this is a stunning achievement that wouldn't have occurred if we hadn't collaborated.
