Rey frightens me even though I know I shouldnβt feel that way (she gives me flashbacks to really mean girls who tormented me growing up). So yeah, I find myself getting defensive on Kyloβs behalf.
Which is a shame because Daisy Ridley seems to be entirely the oppositeβvery bubbly, sweet, and friendly.

TLJ did help me somewhat when it comes to Rey--she wasn't as scary as she was in TFA.Β But we'll see how things go.
(BTW, in contrast, Jyn Erso did not remind me of those awful bullies...I felt like I could have approached her more easily.Β So it's not a misogynist thing by any means.)

I think in the novelization they actually spend more time with each other and if Ben wasn't a weird kid they might have actually ended up in a relationship. But he was a weird kid.
But the holy toxic, abusive Relationship romantisation is scary yes.

The Reylo and Kylux pairings both bother me a lot too, because of the abusive connotations to both of them.Β Kylo Ren is simply not ready for a healthy relationship.Β Truthfully, I don't trust Rey in that regard either and I ESPECIALLY do not trust Hux.
(Yes, I say that as someone writing an X-Reader.Β But the X-Reader is non-romantic and shows a lot of difficulties and tries to be somewhat realistic about consequences, rather than being some simple wish fulfillment.)
