Shar'rath

Shar'rath are kind of a mystery to scientists all over the Known Space. First of all - not only their exterior, but their genetics is extremely close to those of Terran felines... And rather different from all other Sharra's fauna. Current theory states, that millenia ago some space-faring species was so fond of Terran cats, that they abducted large population of them and took them to the stars as pets (skeletal cat remains (Felis silvestris) were found on at least three digging sites, connected to ancient hyperspace-capable civilizations) and, at some point, created a sentient species out of them.

Shar'raths were on of the first two to sentient alien species, encaountered by humans (along with elerians) and were the first alien civilization humanity battled with long ago, in XXIII century. For now, around 60% of shar'rath lives in Russian and Japanese Empires and are considered fully assimilated species. About 35% of shar'rath are citizens of Shar'rath Empire, that is in state of deep stagnation and half-way to full disentegration (especially since UEN traders imported valeriana roots for the first time - before that concept of narcotics was unfamiliar to shar'rath). For now Shar'rath Empire resembles China before the Communist Revolution.
