It might!! A good tip for shading is to use the opposite color on the color wheel for the shadow. For instance, if the color is blue, then use an orange to bring it into shadow. To make something lighter, use a color closer to yellow on the color wheel. So to brighten up red, use a yellow-orange. It makes it more dimensional than just using black and white.
