Description Well...I finally put it together....There is no way to put it all in here...and I figured that if I were to do that than I might as well make a book! So maybe I will...if time allows for that. I have a lot more to share and a book would be a great way to do it

I hope someone somewhere will find this helpful to get them going and excited about face ups!

Hi...........I was wondering if you can help me..........I have a large collection of custom painted obitsu heads painted by my good friend in Asia. she told me she uses acrylics as watercolors and that she does not use primer. I tried this but the paint just beads off the head. what am I doing wrong? LOL her works is exceptional as is your art too. she also uses pastels. maybe you can help? thank you so much!

Really pretty >W< Love the irises, such a beautiful color I was wondering, how do you remove a face up from an Obitsu? I'm looking into buying an obitsu, and I might get it used but this owner totally screwed up the head with a really horrendous face up Any tips? Thank you!!!

Windsor and Newton brush cleaner. It's nontoxic and along with removing face-ups, I was even able to use it to get carpet stains out. Real good stuff!

Will any kind of acrylic paint work for faceups? I saw some at Wal-Mart and Michaels, but I'm not sure if it's alright to use those.

Yes. Acrylic paint is what you want to use. I suggest thinning it and using many of those thin layers to build it up and blend it. The better quality paint always produces the nicest work because you loose pigment when you thin it out. Always seal your work too! The acrylic varnishes used in thin coats works well

Hi! I love your dolls, and I had a question I hope you can help me with x_x
I'm new to this, but do head and bodies have to be EXACTLY the same size (for ex, 1/6) To fit together? And where is the best place to buy Obitsu parts? Thank you!

Just practice on some junk Barbies till you get the hang of it. It just takes time and a passion to learn it. You can do it!!!

Thanks a lot for this!! Could you tell me some brands of acrylic varnish sealers? IΒ΄m having a hard time trying to get those
I tried on ebay but had no luck (maybe having names itΒ΄s easier), guess IΒ΄ll have to find an e-shop that ships worldwide ^^

damseldolls In reply to SicilianValkyrie [2010-05-10 16:25:50 +0000 UTC]

The most important sealer is the Mister Super Clear (MSC)(spray) in Flat. There is a picture of the MSC in the tutorial.

To do the eyes and lips in gloss you can use the less expensive acrylic gloss sealers that you paint on --available at Walmart or craft stores. Two names that I specifically use are"Deco Art" Duraclear Varnish and "Delta Ceramcoat" Matte Interior Varnish. Always do a finish coat over your whole doll atleast 6 inches away with the MSC spray in flat, after everything else dries for atleast 24 hrs.

Hope that helps

Very awesome tutorial Seriously working on a book next year?! I'd LOVE to see that! That'd be sooooo cool!
I still like the look of the pencil drawing... (the finished version, of course, is gorgeous).
It makes me want to do something like a fairy or elf obitsu...
Very nice!!!!

Thanks

I'm hoping to do a book...if I can keep focused...it would be a lot of photo's and editing etc...as I work through more faceups...I learn a lot when I take photos through each stage...so I would also benefit from that discipline

The pencil stage is really cool..its the "sketch" and I love good sketches! Its very surreal looking

That would be cool to do a fae/elf

Did you see my Barbie fae in my gallery?- [link]

closeup- [link]

She's way prettier in person...I made he ears with clay and her hair mohair, and wings with fantasy film and wire

I had fun
glad you saw the finished tutorial..I would love to put more there... thats what gave me the book idea.so hopefully I will do it
