Description
This behemoth of an Aircraft is the C-17 Globemaster III Cargo Plane used by the USAF, it was originally built by McDonnell Douglas before the Company defunctioned and was taken over by Boeing Defense, Space and Security. It is powered by 4 Pratt and Whitney PW2000 turbofans and despite its size only requires a crew of 3 consisting of 2 pilots and 1 loadmaster.
The cargo it carries can vary from an Abrams MBT, 3 Stryker APC's or 6 M1117 Armoured security vehicles, but if the Globemaster is not carrying supplies it can carry 134 troops with palletized seat or 102 troops seated standard centreline.
It can also be used as a Medevac carring 36 litter and 54 ambulatory patients with medical attendants.
I took this photo 25th July at the 2010 Farnborough Airshow.
