It was a day like any other in sleepy old Wynsiph. The town wasn't known to have any particularly interesting happenings occurring, save for the strange events of warptide which happened once a year. For little Oleander, however, this would be anything else but a day like any other.

As per usual, he was dropped off at the Nook by his mother during the early hours of the morning. Alma was there to welcome him in and he waved goodbye to his mother before entering.

Oleander had an idea.

He had heard the murmurs among wynglings about Suvash's Dojo, a place they said anyone was welcome to learn self-defense, even someone as young as himself. He wanted that - wanted to do something that mattered to him. Something his mother would never allow, for reasons he himself could imagine. He'd been deliberating over the past few days over what to do, trying his best not to act impulsively as it never turned out well for him. But after a lot of thinking, he had finally decided to go through with it. His mother worked a steady schedule and came to pick him up in the evening at the same time every day. As long as he made it back to the nook before she arrived, everything would be fine.

Once Alma had left him to his own devices, he made his way up the stairs, traveled down a long corridor, and turned into an unoccupied room. It was empty, with no source of light except for the sun that shone through a window at the end. Oleander quietly padded towards the window and pushed it open, peaking his head out to look around. This was one of the only rooms in the building which had access to a large tree behind the nook. He had planned to jump through the window onto the branches, then climb down the tree and make his way towards the dojo. He just hoped nobody there would recognize him, or know his mother to tell her he'd gone out.

Oleander steeled himself, taking one final, uncertain glance back towards the door. He didn't have to do this if he didn't want to. He could still turn back.

But Oleander did not turn back; he took a deep breath, leaped out the window, and landed successfully on a large branch.

This was the first time he disobeyed his mother.

Some plot development for Ollie

His mom said he is not supposed to leave the nook under any circumstances, so he has to sneak out for his dojo lessons. Poor fella ):
