Her knees buckling, Julie tried to stay standing as every strand of hair on her head came to life, slowly growing, strengthening, and thickening. Her emotions went wild as she, knowing that every inch of growth flowing from her mane drained her life energy little by little, still exulted in the feeling of soft, luscious hair flowing past her fingertips like a slow-moving river of chocolate.

Her peripheral vision caught hold of Todd as he managed to force open the locker that held her shorn braid. He was going to take it, and she was too weak to stop him. It took all of her strength to not crumple to the floor. She didn't want to think about the fact that he could have freed her without cutting her beautiful locks. In a sick twisted way, she was grateful to him. Her happiness equaled her fear and sadness at what was happening to her. She didn't know how to deal with it. Todd was gone. Had he known the combination to that locker, or had he used some kind of tool to get her freshly cut hair loose from it? She didn't care anymore.

All around her was silky magnificence. It took about 5-10 minutes for her hair to reach the floor, and continued to grow for another few seconds after that. She caressed her smooth, full tresses, hugged them close to her. She wanted to just fall into this coccoon of hair and live there forever, away from all the craziness she had been experiencing. It was wonderful.

Real life slowly intruded back into her consciousness again. This was not good. Oh, it was, but no. This was a disaster. How could she let Ms. Featherstone see her, after she had promised not to let this happen? What was going to transpire now that the being in the pit would gain more power? Because of her weakness!

Her test! No, too much was happening at once. Julie had to act, had to do something besides stand here like a useless hairball. She opened her locker and grabbed her backpack...
