Description
Another test image I decided to post for what it's worth. I found a pretty good fog camera and decided to give it a test--obviously I played around with the depth of field as well. I can't say this image depicts anything that might happen in my on-going fantasy story; like I said it's just a test. It gave GIMP's despeckle command a workout because the fog camera/layers really produced a lot of fireflies in the original render. My favourite part is how the sword reflects the rim light as if catching the golden rays of a setting sun peeking through the clouds. That was a happy accident; I re-positioned Duster's sword arm so I could reduce the F-stop on the camera and make the background hazier and it just happened to be at just the right angle for that effect.

Maybe I'll do another one where her wet, naked body is clambering over a rock.

Dunno if is the fog or the Depth of field or both or my eyes but Duster is looking like real 3D for me. It is Like if she is walking into the picture. Β
the reflects on the rapier are looking really amazing

I think it was a bit easier to achieve here than in some other images I've done (such as the forest images in the current comic) because there isn't any "middle ground".
In the forest images I have DAZ Studio trees around and behind the figures and then a forest image I add in postwork in my image program (GIMP). I struggle to blur the background just right so it's in keeping with the depth of field applied to the original render and its background elements but I know I'm guessing. I suspect to the eye/brain it sometimes works and sometimes looks a little off.
Whereas here there's just the foreground figure and the background. No intermediary elements to confuse the eye.

Ah so you process the image on gimp after rendering on Daz.
Yes, that may explain the 3D effect.
It is looking very cool at least for me, actually i feel even a bit dizzy like when i watch stuff with 3D glasses Β

Yeah, pretty much always. I usually add a "screened" layer of the original which is a quick and easy way of adjusting brightness and contrast. I'll sometimes add a "glow" screen as well to give highlights a soft, light glow like they're reflecting a small, diffuse amount of light; and a vignette layer to darken the corners and what-not so the main figure stands out a bit more. Plus some effects (like that starburst I used on Vladi's staff) are easier to add in post. I feel like I still have a lot to learn about postwork (and about Studio too!), but what I do know helps make for a more effective image.

Sounds like a lot of work but with all the adjusting but the resulted is worthy for sure.
It probably takes a lot of experience to add the glow screen to have that kind of effect.
I think you know enough of postwork for another tips tutorial ^^ Β

You are welcome.
I hope so. The ones for Daz and the tips for writing are really good.Β
