I like this one a lot. It really speaks to me. I like the composition , I love the clouds and that lightning bolt out there is just brilliant. The colors are beautiful , they remind me of paintings and that long exposure looks really good on the waves.
I don't know your philosophy on post-processing , but if you're not against it , you should enhance that lightning bolt , to make it stand out more - I looked for some time at the picture before noticing it.

the bolt has been enhanced a little.. i tried doing it more but it looks too fake.... maybe one day when i have time.. ill spend more time and experiment.

I believe the bolt is what makes this picture stand out from the rest

subtle indeed this is lovely i like moody shots like this...but i do think it could benefit from a levels adjustment just to lighten it a bit....but none the less well done for the patience for 500 shots....
oh and theres a few specs of sensor dirt too...

lol.. thanx.
i do see the sensor dust.. im gonna throw it back in photoshop and fix that.. i had some huge dusts spots i guess i missed the little ones.

this is actually looks a lot duller on DA than photoshop.. im going to try and fix it the way i wanted it to look. I like it kinda dark cuz if i lighten it up the lightning disappears.... im gonna fiddle around with it.. and load it back in.

i took the liberty of making a very simple levels adjustment, you can see the results here [link]
if you open your original image go to 'image' then 'adjustments' then 'levels' you'll see what looks like a graph at either end and the middle of the base of the graph are sliders, go to the slider on the right (white one) and pull it in towards where the 'graph' bulges upwards you will see it takes the greyness out of the image, then move the middle slider, which basically makes it darker or lighter to your liking....

no problem...were you using a tripod? if the lightning is consistent than using slower shutters will help you capture the lightning easier

yah i was using a tripod.. and with this shot i was using f22 with a 1 second exposure and i have my ND8, ND4 and ND2 filters on.. cuz it was stillll to bright.. lol.

this was 4:15 in the afternoon after all.. and behind my was blue sky and some clouds.. it was a messed up day..

ahhh i see...looks like you got it all under control lol...i hate when its too bright for longer exposures. it just ruins everything lol

haha yah.. i shake my fist at the sky sometimes.. lol

i just bought 2 more ND8 filters.. im hoping to use them when they get here for the next storm.. maybe i can get some loooooooooooooooooooooooong exposures!! will be lots of glass to shoot through tho.. but oh wells

PeterJCoskun In reply to Dani-Lefrancois [2009-06-30 02:53:12 +0000 UTC]

ha shooting through glass....

i need to get some good ND filters and maybe a GND...id like to get them for the 17-40L though and i dont know when ill be getting that...i need to take some long exposure shots

Dani-Lefrancois In reply to PeterJCoskun [2009-06-30 03:35:49 +0000 UTC]

LOL oh dear.. i dindt even notice the "through glass" thing.. hahaha

since the 17-40 is soo wide.. you see the filter holder..s o you actually lose an inch or so on each side of the picture....

what kind of filter holder do you have? I have the Cokin P-series holder and I had the same problem w/ seeing the holder, so I just bought the cokin z-pro.

Dani-Lefrancois In reply to rivaraftin1977 [2009-06-30 20:45:19 +0000 UTC]

i have the cheapo 3 filter holder from ebay. mine looks like this one.. [link]

does the cokin z-pro compatible with the p series filters? i need to investigate new holders.

yeah that's kinda like what my old one looks like. the z-pro should be compatible w/ the p series because that's what I have. Here's the link [link]

hahaha...well your using it on a 5d im still using a cropped body, so i dont think i would loose too much on the sides with the filter holder
