Description Edit 1 Before any of you self righteous bastards even start, I tell you now that i drew this, because I feel badly for the individual dead, and sympathy for their living relatives now hit with such grief at their loss.
I use Hetalia characters because I like it, and because it's a convenient personification. I refer to Japan because they got hit most, but I care about the individuals.
So before you begin your ranting about how I only care about my fandoms, or how I don't really get how the victims feel, or else, that I only care because it's Japan, you can shut your holes right now, and find someone else to whine at

End Edit

I've been following the tragedy in Japan since Friday, and I wanted to do something for it.

When I saw this, I was inspired [link]

Japan, you didn't even need to ask.

(I'm not trying to have Britain outshine the sympathy of the rest of the world, but being English, I don't feel I can really speak for the rest of the world)

I don't even think there ARE any of these "weeboos" people are complaining about. Everybody is concerned for the people. (especially the hetalia community!! on LJ there was no hate, only concern and people being supportive). It's like they need someone to hate, so they're inventing someone.

I don't think it's that. I think that they actually do believe that we all do only care, just because it's Japan. I don't doubt there are people like that, and I despise those people who are only concerned because of their animes rather than because of the people.
The difference between me and these haters, is that I can't believe that all of us are like that, I know that a great deal, if not most of us that have shown our support do it out of a genuine regard for the people suffering and dead, even if this is only a partial reason. I choose to believe that individual people are not so cold-hearted as that

I agree. I haven't seen any people who only care about the anime. They probably do exist on some corner of the internet, but they're not the majority. It just ends up looking like that because the conversations happen in anime groups, because that's where people have friends. And how they might know specific Japanese people they are worried about.

I've only seen people either actually caring, or hating on the people who do care.

Incidentally. What is a "weebo"? I've heard the term before, and I could look it up, but I think I'll just ask

it's sort of a term for a person who's obsessed with anime and Japanese culture (in a negative way)

Oooh, like those people who say kawaii every chance they get and say "desu" incorrectly because in most circumstances it's pronounced "dess"?

I must say I feel rather insulted being bunched in with that lot. No offence to many of the younger individuals in that lot since really it can be what may be loosely called a "phase"

I really like the picture and the idea behind it. Disasters really bring the world together. Sometimes it seems we forget that we're all human and should help each other.

In other ways, it only serves to divide us more unfortunately

in some ways, it does. But there is always some sort of unity to come out of things like this.

what happened and is continuing to happen is so overwhelmingly horrible , i cant even properly process it .
you obviously meant is as a sympathetic action when you drew this ,i cant imagine how someone could misinterpret the sentiment behind it .

Oh it's quite possible. I saw comments that related it as I looked through other pictures that expressed the same sympathy. It made me rather annoyed I don't mind telling you

Some minutes after the earthquake, I drawed some of the characters/counries from hetalia helping Jappan, now I see my idea wasn't really original. XDXD

Anyway geat job and very representative

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to OtakuJuanma [2011-03-13 01:06:02 +0000 UTC]

I did try to make this more representative of what happened in the disaster as well, as I didn't want to focus to be on the characters so much, it might appear that I was favouring the anime rather than the victims and the nation itself, which as you might see from the front page, people are already becoming most vehement against.

In the back for instance, there's the nuclear plant that caught fire, the ship that was lost carrying 100 passengers. It's a sad time indeed
