Description Decided to change the composition entirely, which will make the finish point much delayed in time but hopefully I will see this through. Β Any comments and critiques are welcome! I'm still not sure how the hair will work out, and there is something about her face that bugs me but I cannot figure it out.

Edit* A lot of work on the hair. Every single hair was painted separately My bf said I'm crazy. I'm fairly happy with the result tho.

It does? Even with the weird color scheme? That's really nice to hear ^^

Besides the weird colour scheme, that is, but it could also be a picture with the hues altered >:3

Thanks, it was very experimental. I worked with it again recently on Mirage, but a little tweaked so it looks a bit more natural.

really loving this piece. the color pallet really works with the muted blue-green color and the bright pop of its compliment. your avatar is what drew me to this piece. i think all the features are really well observed. the hair looks AMAZING! great job there. you said that there was something that bugs you about the face...im kinda picking up on that but trying to figure out what it is as well. if you're going for photo-realism type drawing, then maybe the eyes are a bit large? I'm interested to see how this turns out. do you have any plans for the bg? a bunch of bright beautiful flowers might be interesting

Thanks a lot for the compliments! You've really brought a smile on my face.Β
Indeed I'm quite into realism, although I did want to give it a more painterly look in the beginning. That idea is out the window now, I guess. Thanks for your observation. I still haven't worked out what it is that bugs me but several people also gave me suggestions and I will definitely apply them to see what it is that worries me.Β
I'm unsure about the bg, too, since this was originally only going to be a simple sketch. Maybe some more hair and some flower petals indeed.

The way you texturize is just perfect. The hair looks very realistic, and again, you are very good at painting skin texture... I love the colors on this and the vibrant flower! however, it's a shame that you didn't finish painting the hair and her hairline because it looks a bit messy with the partially erased brush strokes floating around

Thank you again! The hair actually really helped me discover new simpler and faster techniques. I plan to eventually finish it but finding time to draw is an issue for me unfortunately

Yeah, it's a tricky and hard thing to do. Maybe some day I will be married to a rich guy which will allow me to cook and paint all day long!

ninated In reply to DanielaIvanova [2014-04-06 20:28:20 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! And then, you would never have to worry about finding a job that gives you enough income. You could just travel around and paint portraits for people or whatever Oh I guess I need to find a rich guy

Well, ofc I would put in considerable time and effort to spoil him, too. But it's hard not to let my ego push my imagination towards selling-my-art dreamland!

WOW, your digital work is so detailed! Especially that hair!! Your time and work paid off because it looks gorgeous.

I don't know what it could be about the face that you don't like... Hmm, since I've been staring at it to figure it, it looks like the eyebrow on the right (viewer's right) could be a little wonky... Like the eyebrow goes straight down into the bridge of the nose rather than stopping opposite the other eyebrow. Her nose also might be very high above her mouth, but honestly I'm only saying that because your comment made me stare at it so hard.

Her eyes are really, really pretty and I love the pink shine to the whole thing.

Thanks! That compliment means a lot - it could actually help me overcome my hatred for drawing hair! Β

Tell me about staring... I will have a go at changing and shifting her features a little bit and I will definitely take your advice into consideration. Thank you so much for the help!

Wow it's fantastic and that hair! But one thing is bothering me, I think the nose is a little too high up.

DanielaIvanova In reply to Rhuni [2014-03-01 10:56:12 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for taking the time to leave me such a sweet compliment! I realised some time into the painting that the nose wasn't quite right but I thought it wouldn't be that noticeable. Now that you've pointed it out, I must fix it!

Rhuni In reply to DanielaIvanova [2014-03-01 11:17:32 +0000 UTC]

You don't know the perfectionist I am! In any case your feedback was incredibly incredibly useful to me cause now I know that it is a noticeable flaw that I should work on, not only in this one but in future works as well.

The hair and the overall image is beautiful. I must agree that something with the face was bothering me as well. I think (to me anyway) I feel as thought the top of the head is a bit too squished compared to the rest of it.

DanielaIvanova In reply to MizDawesome [2014-02-28 19:59:33 +0000 UTC]

Your critique is priceless! I've been looking at this for so long I can no longer see the flaws in it, but your suggestion is spot on! I will definitely work on the head shape some more. Thanks so much for the help!

Thanks for the comment. This is an issue I've been considering, too. There will be an object that casts a mild shadow there, I'll see how it looks with it and then repair if suitable. Thank you for the tip!
