Unless you want a second curse added to the first one? That what you want? Come closer. Pull your hair down, give me a taste. Mm, curious, cinder and rot. Miserable fool. I can't help you. Go away! Get out or I'll throw you out! And don't touch anything on your way. What are you - deaf? I said get out! Don't make me laugh. That trinket wouldn't be enough to pay me even if I could break your curse. No, no, no, there is no way in hell to... well,... except... You ever heard of the soul tree? No, 'course not, you're a filthy peasant. Illiterate most likely. And you can't get to it, anyway. What, you gonna blubber your way past samovili? Wade through the vodyanoy's swamp? Ha! And how would you get past the leshys, hmm? Whack them with a spade on the heads? Pitiful wretch! Fine, I'll tell you, if you so desire a torturous death. More torturous than the one set out for you already, yes. We will need a bottle of acid. You will pay for it with that trinket of yours. And five years of your life, if you survive, for my guidance. Give me your wrist. -

A story concept I came up with after playing Dixit with my family during our summer vacation (it's a card game with image-word association). There was this one card with a tree, whose branches were lowering a glowing fruit towards a reclining figure. I found that fascinating and it brought back memories of old Bulgarian tales I've read as a child about golden apples and flaming birds and what have you, and I wondered what if it's a magical healing fruit. What kind of ailment would that be a remedy for? And if it was such a powerful cure, then it must be protected in some way or lie surrounded by hostile forces, as it always does in fairytales.
So I did some sketches and explorations but it wasn't until taking the CGMA composition class that I settled on this version with the help of Axel Sauerwald.
