Oh boy, where do I begin with this beast? I guess I'll start by saying this guy was the ultimate monster from my childhood. When I watched Disney's Pinocchio as a kid, this guy was the best part, as terrifying as he was. I used to imagine myself(or even other Disney characters) getting swallowed up by him and then escaping later on as a kid. And this was long before I watched Jaws, but even today, nothing can replace Monstro as the ultimate terror of the deep.

I know what you're gonna say, "come on, Dan. We all know whales are peaceful and gentle giants." Well, Monstro begs to differ. I mean come on, his name literally means "monster" in Portuguese! And Monstro truly lives up to his name, to the point where just the mere mention of it sends the other fish in the ocean swimming away scared. Whales have always had a place in mythology as creatures of power, but Monstro seems to be the only one who makes use of that power. He can make huge tidal waves just by sneezing, swallow entire ships whole, smash them to toothpicks with his tail, and make a big dent in a rocky sea cliff(though that last one does possibly kill him, but that's still up for debate). Say what you will about Moby Dick, but as far as I'm aware, he never attacked anyone unless provoked, something which cannot be said for Monstro. And as exciting as he is to watch on screen, this is one whale I'm all for hunting down and killing, something I imagine myself doing once in a while.

Overall, if you haven't watched Monstro on screen in a long time, give him another watch, cause he's really something to behold, for better or worse.
