A Pleycosaur was not a fullfledged Endotherm, so it wouldn't be able to stand winters.

This is a piece of speculative evolution. Also, are you sure, because in the carboniferous and early permian, there were glaciers and also ophiacodonts in the ame places. Plus, just because an animal is not endothermic does not preclude it from the cold, look at tuataras, or leatherback turtles, they are fully ectothermic, moreso than pelycosaurs, and live in cold places, not to mention salamaders.

Good point.
...
I have absolutely no idea what ectothermic means.

Ectothermic means that they get their body temperature from the environment, endothermic means that they generate their body temperature inside their body from eating. Ectothermic = "cold blooded", Endothermic = "Warm blooded".

Ah, thanks for those terms. I'll have to use them when describing by alien species. (and to make me look smart )

What's the background of this? It's a cool scenario (short of, you know, the horrible decimation of all life on Earth)
I like the way the fur shows the folds in the skin and the arrangement of the limbs underneath. I also like the falling snow/sleet.
That's an awfully big, heat-radiating, naked surface on the face, though.

Aww, you just rendered all my concept sketches obsolete.
Love it, though! Maybe I'll have to go with the dicynodont pinnipeds instead.

Nice, the original sketch had dicynodont-mammoths walking in the background, but I didn't end up using them. The pinniped idea sounds pretty awesome, you should totally try it...with those tusks you might get some sort of convergent walrus.

I love this! The Ice Age of the Permian escalating to this would've totally screwed up the whole of the Mesozoic Era.
