Description These are Steiska. They are a sentient species that live on a fairly dry planet with extreme summers and winters. Their habitat is desert dunes that snow over in the winter. Come winter, their colours fade from sand colours to snow colours - greys, whites, and blues - and they develop a layer of fat and a plush fur coat underneath their scales so that their warm blooded bodies can stay warm. Their eyes are specially adapted to the darkness of night and their cave homes and the brightness the sand and snow produce with a membrane that acts as a secondary pupil, filtering the light that enters the eye even further. Their actual irises span the entire front half of the eye so that they can see in the dark if needed. Their eyes also act independently form each other like a chameleon's. Like Earth's sandfish, they have very smooth scales and can swim beneath the dunes using their four pairs of arms and a pair of legs, and on each hand and foot are six digits - five fingers and a thumb on each hand and six toes on each foot. That makes for 60 digits altogether. The males of the species have an enlarged tooth in the front of their mouth that they use in burrowing and sparring.

lol It's alright. I have short hair and I'm often mistaken for a guy irl, so I'm kinda used to it.

I really like this idea and how you drew it. Is this being sentient or has it got opposable thumbs by any chance?

Thanks. They are sentient, as I mentioned in the description, and they live a tribal/caveman lifestyle. And yes, their thumbs are opposable and indexable.

They remind me a bit of skinks. I love the stripes, and the colorful eyes! I can just picture them scuttling along...

That's where I got the inspiration - sandfish skinks. Thank you!

I love how you actually figured out a sensible way to make fish races.

Really like these.

Except these aren't fish. They're actually inspired by sandfish, a species of skink lizard that lives in the desert and get their name from their habit of "swimming" through sand. Thanks for the complement, anyway.

Oh, derp.

Wrong deviation. Meant to post that in your "There will be fish people..." deviation.

Lol. That's what I thought your comment was on at first. How'd you make that mistake, anyway?

Got distracted after reading the real fish, had both tabs up and saw "fish" on this one first, and just blindly commented
