Description
The Sthulei (STHWOO-lay) is a four foot long Zuran animal that looks much like a Terran turtle, but has a large hydrogen-filled flight bladder under its shell and porous bones for weight reduction so it can easily float around in its forest home. Their flippers-turned-wings and flukes are used to propel and steer themselves through the air. They can achieve short bursts of speed by pushing off tree branches, which they do when using the spikes on the front of their shells to ward off predators. They'll eat nearly any fruit and vegetation they can find in the forest and are prey to a few animals including the Iyayal . They'll lay around a dozen eggs at a time in a nest in one of the highest branches around and the hatchlings will stay in the nest until their flight bladders are able to produce the lifting hydrogen and will stay with their mother until near adulthood. From then on they'll be independent but will stay within 50 klicks of their hatch spot.
