That's some awesome quality bronze powder, it looks real.
Did you brush it or mix it?

Omg it looks awesome! The details are brought out gorgeously by the metal finish, ! It looks really great If you're going to make other casts, I wonder if a bit of copper powder could bring a slightly more golden/orange color?

Also how much does it weight?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

danielokeefe In reply to noxfoxArts [2014-03-20 13:22:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah absolutely!! I was going to experiment with different ratios of copper to bronze and also with separate mixes to try and get some subtle movement in the colour. This cast is quite heavy, around 1.2kg at a guess.Β

I am trying to learn to imitate diferent textures by adding charge to the resin. I only tried color but I got some bronze powder . ΒΏDo you have a pic of the raw cast with the bronce powder resin? Thanks!

lol. IΒ΄ve just asked for the same... specially how is the raw piece with bronce powder or aluminium powder before aging.

Thanks!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

danielokeefe In reply to dodoalbino [2014-02-25 11:32:05 +0000 UTC]

Before it's been polished or straight out the mould? Straight out the mould it looks like chocolate if if it's bronze powder and grey if if aluminium powder. Then when you use wire wool to expose the metal powders and it looks like metallic chocolate/grey. I'll take a picture of the next cast for you

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

dodoalbino In reply to danielokeefe [2014-02-27 14:49:40 +0000 UTC]

OK! Thanks very much!

I didnΒ΄t know polish was necessary...

My concern is just the way it looks real metal or if it is just a little bit of metalic appearance. I guess it will depend on the quantity of powder you use in the mix. What percentage in weight do you use more or less?

Thanks for your help and sorry for all these questions.

danielokeefe In reply to dodoalbino [2014-02-27 16:43:02 +0000 UTC]

The more metal powder you get in the mix the better it looks after you've polished it up.Β It doesn't look like metal until you've polished it.Β The problem comes with getting the mix into the mould when casting. For the dagger i did a 5:1 ratio (5 parts metal powder to 1 part resin), i had to brush this into the mould. I backed it up with a 3:1 mix that i could pour into the mould once it was closed Does that help?

They're Dwemer though not DwarvesΒ  Tall and all that.Β  Dwemer were a race of elvenkind that lived underground and favored logic, science and knowledge above superstition.Β  They disappeared shortly after the forming of the Tribunal in Vvardenfel.
Nerd moment aside it's a fantastic looking weapon!

Actually if you read the Elder Scrolls wiki: "Mer Β used the term "Dwemer", whose meaning was roughly translated to "people of the deep".[6] Β The term also connoted to "deep-delving," "profound," and "close-counseled".[7] [8] However, they were commonly referred as "Dwarves" byΒ Men [6] "
