well I just one layer for the colors under the lines. If I need effects then I'd add another layer over the lines, but generally I only use one layer for the colors.

just one...hmm...do you use then a brush with unsharp edges or do you use the unsharp and smudge tool...( i think you work with photoshop) would be interesting to see the steps...maybe on a normal ball as a small tutorial

I try to use the smudge tool sparingly. I just use a brush with an edge that's a bit hard edge. I use soft edge brush sparingly as well. I find that smooth blends don't really add character to shapes. It's to smooth. Usually I'll use a soft edge brush for big areas and then I'll go harder with smaller things. A tutorial is sure to be on the way eventually.

AAHhhh omg, way too cute!!! X33 And I LOVE that lighting/ subtle texture you got on pupets - they seem more real. The tones on Kankuro's skin is my fab part tho I think....coloring wise. The chibi puppets win the internets tho!!

*Kidnaps Kankuro* Yaaaay, just got home from acing a test, and I get to see Kankurou finished as a bonus!
*Gasps* I really like the colors, since Kankurou is from the Sand village and a more "mysterious" kinda character (in my opinion), the darker colors give the whole scene an earthier dark feeling.
I can't thank you enough, it's SO REFRESHING to see such an amazingly detailed Kankurou chibi fanart! And with his puppets, nonetheless!

That whole fade out thing is really just a play on art when actually nothing that close to another character would fade out unless some light smog were between the characters. That effect really isn't possible, it's just something that looks cool artwise.
