Forgot to mention anything 'bout the work itself. It's quite stunning, interesting pose. Is she reaching for something?
May I ask how big it is?

I'm not that familiar with sculpting but isn't that a wierd (but functional) kind of supporter..
Perhaps it's common?

it is in fact common to use an external support when working large, dependent in the pose..

Yes, That I'm aware of, but using an industrial type pipe like that seemed fun ^_^

you would have to use a support as strong as industrial piping as it is holding up about 30+ pounds of oil based clay..

Yeah that seems reasonable ^_^. Isn't it hard to calculate how much "pipeing" you need when you plan out doing one of these large sculptures. I guess that's something you learn at artschool no?, and experience of course.

right, but it is also good to remember that in the finished product, there will be no piping. one would make a mold of this clay piece, discard the clay, and fill the mold with bronze or plaster. what will be left is a tiny extruding piece of whatever you filled the mold with. you can deal with this by grinding/sanding it down. the size of the pipe is relatively small compared to the 33 inch figure. i think it's about half of an inch.

Oh, so you acctually go through the whole process of making it into bronze or plaster eh..That's interesting. I learned something here, thank ye.
