For me, Eclipse has always been slower than DA Green. They mentioned in the previous journal that they would be working on the speed of Eclipse, but as someone who uses it every now and again it feels so much slower than it normally is. Hopefully it's just a result of them working on it and it'll be fixed in the final version.

Hi, Grudgeholderr.
It's true that site speed with Eclipse is a little slower than that of "classic" DeviantArt.Β That said, we've made considerable improvements in this area since already and we continue making refinements daily.Β These improvements are part of our normal beta release for Eclipse and we look forward to having it up to normal speeds soon.
Thanks for commenting!

More like "except Sonic". Seriously, do you have to insult Sonic artists like that? What is so bad about people drawing fan art? They're doing nothing wrong. If you don't like it then just don't look at it like you said. But let people draw whatever they want without openly bashing or mocking them for it. Outside of DeviantArt, I myself am a Sonic artist so that insulted me.

How is it so insulting to mute sonic art? That person never bashed, mocked it or said you couldn't draw it, just said they'd mute it ._.Β

I hope you're not agreeing with this artist for insulting people who draw Sonic like that. It's really not nice. People should have the right to draw whatever they want without being shamed for it. If I want to draw birds, I should be allowed to draw birds without being laughed at for it, shouldn't I?Β

LPAki In reply to FoxfireKyuubi [2019-06-29 04:49:25 +0000 UTC]
Well first off I didn't say anything about Sonic art. I was mentioning certain tags I wanted to mute with the feature, though I do get annoyed when I constantly see so much of it like MLP fan art. Secondly, they weren't insulting people who drew Sonic. They didn't even say there was something wrong with people who drew fan art in general or that people couldn't draw what they wanted either. Some people just genuinely don't want to see a plethora of certain fan art or fanmade OCs of that subject on the site. Just because a person can draw something, doesn't mean others want to or have to see it. Lastly, just like you want people to have the right to draw whatever they want without being shamed, this person should be able to dislike certain art without being shamed by you. Besides, if you want to avoid unfavorable opinions about art you like doing then I suggest you either ignore them or get off the site.
Btw, "Birds" is in no way a fair comparison to "Sonic fanart." Birds are an extremely broad subject and there are many aspects that make bird artwork different compared to Sonic fan art

Glad tag filtering is finally a thing. The amount of fetish art that shows up on the front page has actually driven me away from the site and from what I've seen, it's a major joke about DeviantArt.
100 tags are nearly not enough to encompass all the tags to mute, so I do hope that the limit increases in the future. I've been on DeviantArt for about 9-10 years on several different accounts, the amount of fetish art now is probably the worst I've seen. Don't get me wrong, drawing NSFW stuff is fun and all, but I don't want to see that every time I hop on to browse. (Not to mention all the foot, inflation, vore, etc fetish art really aren't my cup of tea, but that's just me.)

But why do you visit the front page if you don't like what is there? I have used deviantART over 13 years and I have always had my own profile page as the website bookmark for dA. I rarely need anything from the front page so I only visit it couple of times every year. I don't even know what the front page looks like nowadays.

Eclipse is like Windows 10. It will always be beta ware. Also, it wants to be like failbucks... mobes only. Yuck, man...Β Thanks, Wix...

Totally agreed.
I'd be glad if they would do something with dA's current bad image compression (it murders most uploads' quality) and actual bugfixes, dA is like Windows 10 in a way of 'look its much better cause shiny interface' but functionality wise it's dumbed down to the ground.

dA is going to do nothing about anything not approved by Wix, who now calls the shots as owners. Wix is controlled by some rather frugal penny pinchers at the executive level, so they are constantly going to expect dA to doΒ more with less until they choke the very life out of this site and bilk its users.
When Eclipse lands as a gold release on everyone, folks who use desktop PCs will be relegated to the trash pile while the fondleslabbers take over. You and I both know that producing and consuming art on a small screen is only for failbuckers and so that is what dA will become, a cesspool for the social media addicts.
I am not looking forward to this change since dA was the last true bastion of unique art forums on the internet. Thanks to social media addiction, it is soon to go to that place where all great things go to die. I am not planning on taking down my content, but I doubt that I will be a regular contributor once the site changes over.

This is less about Eclipse and more just in general, but the image compression lately has been really bad. I'd prefer the original quality of the images to stay - I use this website as an archive for a lot of my earlier art, since I no longer have access to the devices it was made on, and I don't want to lose the quality of those images forever. It also makes viewing art way worse; I can't just enjoy crisp lineart or detailing because the compression ruins it. The download feature should also be returned to normal - it just downloads the art straight to your device now, rather than giving you a separate window. The window was good because it was convenient and let us view art at a larger size without having to download; please bring that feature back!

Black and white is not typical for deviantart. Sure, it's deviantarteclipse, but I like the deviantart version with his green color. Black looks so criminal and white is too bright and I can't see clear lines on my account to see the topics.

"This is the first of several theme-related color changes."
Can't wait for the rest :0! With there be more splashes of colors, or does this refer to different shades a black and white?
Also, how will the muted tag options affect groups? There are some pieces that we accept that would probably have tags I wouldn't want to see. Will their thumbs and such still appear on the submission feed?

Neat, it'll really shine when you pair it up with a more robust, possibly mandatory, tagging system and an exponentially longer tag list, which clearly you're definitely going to do...right? So the next stop must be to implement pagination! Right?

Will tagging be required and reportable to make this update effective?
Like if someone posts inflation, but doesnt tag it, or tags it as something else.
Will there be a new report option for tags specifically?
Sub folders would be helpful, and an option to organize favorites too.
I'm also going to agree with another commenter on the fact that I think deviations from artists we watch should be on the top of our notifications/default.

I find it amusing that you can block 500 people, but can only mute 100 tags when the porn/fetish count is far beyond that limit.
So even if the person muted the particular tag, it will still leak out on the front page and recommendations.
This feature is hands down a godsend, but it needs work.
I have seen enough; inflation, muscle growth, vore, feet, diaper, dick pics, etc on this site.
Now do not get me wrong, I do not mind viewing smut a little now and then, but not 24/7.
This site is about art, not how much porn and fetishes you can submit on it.

I appreciate the long overdue inclusion of a tag filtering system, but I have a few first impressions.
1. One hundred tags is not nearly enough to make a dent in filtering out the amount of fetish art I see here daily. This account may be new, but I've been a regular visitor since 2006, and I'd like to know if the 100 tag limit is there because of a programming difficulty (and will be expanded to a greater number at a later time), or if it's intentionally there to prevent users from abusing it (how they could is something I can't see). Personally speaking, one of the most frustrating things for me is going into the 3D category on New and being face-blasted with video game screenshots and fetish spam instead of finding cool sculptures that small artists actually have put work into.
2. Speaking of specific categories, I don't know if it's just me and I've missed something, but I can no longer go into a category more specific than Digital Art for whatever reason. The browsing side-bar was what really made the website stand out to me after all these years, and it'd be frustrating to not have it there anymore for when there's something specific I want to find. Is this temporary or permanent?
3. The new theme is cool, but I have concerns about the user page customisation as well as the extreme darkness across the general website. I find it all to be so reminiscent of ArtStation (which isn't a bad thing, don't get me wrong), and having a lighter option to switch back to would be nice, for those who do prefer the new dA layout but are sensitive to bright contrasts. And is there a way to keep user pages similarly customisation as they are in the old version? I know a lot of users would be disgruntled over losing the work they put into their pages only for it to not transfer over to eclipse.
Again, I've barely spent an hour checking things out so I could have overlooked a lot of things during my attempt to get used to this, but I figure I oughta share what I think anyway. Gonna write in the official form as well.
