Premium Members can now use Google Analytics to get meaningful insight about the traffic to their deviantART Profile! Using our new Google Analytics integration, you can access comprehensive statistics about your audience, traffic, and art.

Get Deeper Insight Into Your deviantART Traffic

By enabling the feature on your profile, you can now use Google Analytics to get a better grasp on the deviantART experience that you’ve created for your audience!

  • Understand what types of people are organically drawn to your work. Where do they live? How long are they on your page?
  • See the impact of the marketing you do outside of deviantART. When you share your deviantART work and links in other networks and sites, you’ll be able to track the traffic back to your Journals, Gallery, Profile, and much more!
  • Understand what your visitors are looking at when they’re on your Profile and even for how long! Sometimes visitor trends are unclear until you can see the bigger picture.
  • Evaluate the difference in attention you get for some types of work versus others.
  • See a direct correlation between your marketing activities to deviation submissions and spikes in traffic to your Journals, artwork, or Profile pages.

Learn More About Your Audience Knowing who is engaging with your Profile can help you make decisions about where to hang out, what Groups to join, and other things you might want to share with your audience.

Watch Realtime Activity Flow To Your Profile

Google's realtime reports allow you to sit back and watch activity happening on your content right this second.

View Traffic Stats For Your Content

Google Analytics allows you to dive into traffic stats for deviations, Journals, Galleries, Collections, and other areas of your Profile Page. See which deviations are the most popular today and find out where that traffic is coming from.

Track and Analyze Your Watches and Favourites

Our Google Analytics integration tracks when someone watches or adds your artwork to their favourites, allowing you to view charts and statistics of these events. How many favourites did Reddit traffic give you this week? How many new watchers did you gain last weekend after submitting your newest deviation? Did you gain more watchers this month or last month?

Favourites and Watches are available under Google Analytics' "Events" reports.

...And A Ton Of Other Reports

Here's just a sample of some of the stats you can see:

  • Traffic charts, graphs, and statistics by date
  • Traffic demographics (geographic locations, languages...)
  • Visitor stats (new visitors, returning visitors, time spent on pages, number of pages viewed, bounce rates...)
  • Top sites and social networks sending you traffic and, for some social networks, the individual posts that are linking to your content
  • Search engine keywords people are using to find your Profile Page and content

Measure How Your Activity Impacts Your Audience Growth

Google Analytics can help you make decisions on how you manage your deviations. It can also allow you to see the impact of your on site activities.

  • If you find that your audience is more active on certain days or times, you’ll be able to determine a schedule for posting new art or Journals.

  • Perhaps you’ll find that the more you comment, the more you see your pageviews and watch list jump.
  • If commenting, and critiquing others’ artwork for example, helps increase the level of activity on your Profile, perhaps you’ll decide to do this more frequently.

I don't really get how you can see the fancy stuff like referral visits and search traffic visits, or how you can check how many come from facebook and other sites. or your favs and watchers.... etc. etc. etc.
Do I need to make these options available manually..?
so.. help? anyone? D:

you can google all information about GA by yourself, it isn't that hard, it needs just a bit of effort.

Well that's basically what I'm doing, but asking people who know what they're doing seems like a fine resource as well.. need to go after all my options!
What you're basically saying is 'do it on your own, you're being lazy', which slightly offends me.
no quarrels though.. =w=''

Google is not buying DA people. They could, but they aren't. Google Analytics is just a way to analyze where your site traffic is coming from. It can be useful, so you can adjust to get even more hits from sources you get the most of, or where you need to make changes.

That being said, non-premium users need a bit more convincing to stay on here. I know I do, the site's been declining since I joined nearly a decade ago. I only use it anymore for convenience. Nearly half of my watchers have left the place.

Anako-ART In reply to DismissedSnow [2014-03-20 16:20:04 +0000 UTC]

abandon? if not for money from premium membership you wouldn't be able to use dA at all - because either it wouldn't exist or it would look the very same as in over ten years ago.

If the website works for you - you can submit deviations, jourlans etc., then you can't say you're abandoned.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DismissedSnow In reply to Anako-ART [2014-03-20 17:05:18 +0000 UTC]

oh man, yeah. i mean making journal skins available for all will definitely stop the money from coming in.
you can't even make your page a little personal, it's all the same.

easy thing to say for you premium member for forever, you can make your page personal. and i'm pretty sure this site might be doing something wrong if they'd go out of business if they'd allowed non-premium members to add a poll or let them use journal skins.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anako-ART In reply to DismissedSnow [2014-03-20 17:35:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, but this sounds like the first world problems. So suddenly it isn't enough to have a free membership and priviledge to show off your art with the same chances of publicity for everyone - no, this is "not fair" that premium members can make journal skins, polls, etc and you don't. Come on, this is *not* the purpose of this websites. Its purpose is to have your own gallery and participate in art community - and you CAN do these without premium membership. I registered back in times when you couldn't see a stupid THUMBNAIL without a premium membership (regular users had only titles visible), not mentioning many other features that are now available for free to everyone.

I repeat: dA *have to* offer cool features with the pm, because otherwise people wouldn't buy it and there wouldn't be enough money to manage this website at all. I understand that you may be young and still unaware of how business works, so hopefully you'll understand why it works like that and you won't be surprised by similar stuff in future.

I agree, I don't think DA should exclude non-premium members from polls and journals skins. Those are fun features and they don't really help with one's success on this website. Putting Google Analytics as a premium only feature makes some sense because it greatly improves one's chances on this website. But, at this point, it doesn't seems fair and would only be justified if they gave non-premium members something in return.

I'm not sure why people think DA is going to be bought or "taken over" by Google just because they've added Google Analytics.  Please educate yourself about what this program is and does.  LOTS of website owners use it and it has nothing to do with "buying out" a company. It has to do with SEO: search engine optimization. It tracks the traffic to the site and helps YOU see who is looking at your pages.  Good grief.  No reason to panic.  Ning/Glam networks have been using Google Analytics since it was introduced and it's not done any harm to the networks or their owners.

torilovessmiles In reply to DLR-CoverDesigns [2014-03-19 22:31:26 +0000 UTC]

Mainly because google has begun to make a reputation for themselves of buying out smaller companies, particularly profitable "social network" types. Google has the money to.
I'm not saying it WILL happen, I'm just saying google will probably try (DA is the type of site they could generate a profit from).
If you were a big company, and had an opportunity to buy out a popular, but smaller company that could generate a huge profit, of course you would make an offer.
As long as they don't add TOO much google, I'm fine with it. Like if they started bugging me to link my Google account to deviantArt, that would be too much google.

Following your logic it could happen in years and may happen in the future with every big website in the internet. dA isn't anyhow special in this one.

Okay? I'm just saying it COULD happen, and that's perfectly logical. Other big sites could be bought out, too. Companies buy out other companies constantly, its not an uncommon thing, especially in media, such as websites and video games. ANY company can be bought out by a bigger company.
DeviantArt would be appealing to Google because of the potential to link it with other sites they own, such as youtube and blogger.
I can't tell if you were trying to prove my logic wrong, or agree with me.

The world COULD end tomorrow.  It's wasted energy to spend pages talking about what COULD happen.  This is just a traffic-tracking tool.  All websites use them if they've got any sense.  Not knowing how much traffic your site has, or where it is coming from is like a blind man stumbling around in the dark, trying to find the door.  Suggesting that adding Google Analytics could lead to a Google buyout of DA is just creating panic without any factual information.

I was trying to point out that making a big fuss like you and many other members commenting under this journal make about Google possibly buying off dA is misleading and the risk that something like this will happen to dA is same big (or small) as to any other popular website. Nobody was worried about it before the GA announcement so I don't see the point of starting to worry about it now. All thses "I hope Google won't buy off dA" comments leads only to spreading ridiculous rumors with no evidence and fueling unnecessary paranoia.

Members feel that this may happen, because, before now, deviantArt remained fairly unaffiliated with google. It's not only the risk of google buying out deviantArt, but the possibility of the site becoming dependent on google services that, though trying to help, can be a bit of an inconvenience.
Maybe it's not paranoia, as you suggest, and it's instead "oh boy, more google."
I just simply won't use it. But don't want any unavoidable google services to be added to DA.
Saying "I hope they won't buy out DA" expresses an opinion and a possibility. That's not paranoia. Rumors probably won't be created by that statement.
And, in one of my comments, when I said google will probably try to buy out DA, I meant that they will probably make an offer. I doubt DA would accept it, but they probably wouldn't tell the public about a refused offer. For all we know, an offer has already been made and turned down at some point. Sorry for the misleading comment.

deviantART uses Google Analytics for years for their own purposes. So it's not a new thing, the only thing that changes is that now users can use it as well. Rumors already been created and people blindly keep on repeating in their comments what other people just mentioned somewhere in this journal without spending a moment on checking out the facts. I never heard about such offer, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Don't mind me asking but where did you get this kind of information?
