This tutorial was written using Paint Shop Pro Photo X2. You may be able to re-create this in other programs, but you just have to try. If not, i'm sorry.

Ah, because that is not a brush. That is just a selection I made with the selection
tool on my program. You can make a similar selection with your selection tool.

Had a little bit of difficulty getting the images to flow together, and only realized after all the layers were already merged and was halfway through applying brushes that I noticed how pixel-y one of the images looked, so I'm sad about that, but I like how everything else came out. :]

how you get the lighter colored image under it. i feel like i missed something

Oh. You were supposed to pick a color from one of your images to put underneath them. In step two you were supposed to use your dropper tool to pick a color from one of the images and then fill your background with it.
Does that help? Is that what you were wanting?

It would just take me to the owners deviantart but then it wouldn't load all the way.

I didn't use direct links to the brushes cause I used SO MANY different ones. This was more of a freestyle layout. You just use what brushes you like and feel comfortable using.
I don't know why it wouldn't finish loading though.
