By Any Means Necessary36x48, oils on board
This is easily one of my most popular images, people just seem to totally dig it. I get lots of comments on the weapons and the “Shiva” like arms, but I think one of the overlooked things is the fact that he’s basically in front of a target symbol, and probably the most telling of his “options” are the hands that stay in his pocket.

I have just finished getting the black and gray part of this tattooed on my chest. The color and bullseye are next. Truly appreciate this piece and what it stands for in my own life.

The different weapons all look to be from different time periods and cultures. It is interesting that the man is a generic any-man in a generic conservative suit. It could be anyone as easily as it could be everyone. These elements draw my attention the most. It tells me that Man in general will try any means necessary to get what he wants. Is this why we have become the supposed top of the food chain? The target in the back makes me think that Man's any mean have turned back on him.

This is such an cool piece of art. What really stood out to me the first time I looked at it was the huge red target in the back round. I also like the different poses that you chose for his arms and hands. Its like the different hands and arms represent different political tactics and attitudes. War, Reason, Faith, and Ignorance. This is a fantastic piece and I can see why so many people like it.

I think this is a visually and mentally interesting piece of art.
Forgive me, but I see the target as symbolism of the man making himself a target.
Whatever action he takes for his cause will make him stand out as a target, because there are always people who will disagree with us, no matter how we go about making our voices heard.

honestly i love it! but I do not think that the target symbol has anything to do with him but his enemy or maybe it symbolizes the fact that if he fails in what ever he plans that maybe he is going to be a target manipulative to destroy his country that is if it was meant to be political and if so maybe if he fails in his plans not someone else but his own country will turn on not only him but everyone and it would ultimately lead to the end of his grasp on the country or country's grasp on it's self. Also i think that the weapons he bears with his shiva like arms symbolize endless possibility or the indecisive personality of the man depicted non the less what i think it is still very symbolic and wayyyyyy better than anything i could ever do.

I want to say this is one of the most moving works of art I have ever seen. At first glance, it was really "busy" with all the arms. However, the more you look at it, the more there is to receive. I've gathered my own interpretation of what it means.
The person could be anyone, me or you. He'd on a target, which represents the world, or life in general. All the surrounding weapons are the attacks that one can expect in life. The vary in shapes and sizes and nature of harm, but in the end, they are all obstacles.
The fist represent one who seeks to be revolutionary. One who fights against the tyranny and oppression through force.
The open palms represent one who accepts things for the way they are. Maybe they are at peace with things, or perhaps they feel helpless.
The praying hands represents the one who seeks faith as a means to deal with all of the strife the world oftenly imposes.
Lastly, the hands in the pockets, the most complacent of them all. I read this two ways. One, this person figures there is no need to change the world, possibly they aren't concerned with such matters, or not directly affected. Two, these hands represent the hands of the one who caused the problem. Now they sit satisfied, having to do nothing but hold onto the riches they've acquired at the expense of the others.
I could be completely wrong, but this is just my interpretation. I would love to hear yours.

Well, you're very spot on, so I'm not going to ramble on and muddle the ideas! I thank you a million times, I am flattered with your interpretation. I am mostly flattered that you have such a well written and thought out intepretation!
Thank you!

It's I who should be thanking you. It's rare that I've ever been moved by a work of art in the way that yours has moved me. You should know that you're artwork are truly inspirations. I had no choice but to offer what I felt from the moment I began to gaze at it. Thank you for responding, and forgive my late reply.

is the target also supposed to look like some sort of twisted version of a halo?

The thing I actually noticed is the front hands, the praying ones, that seem to go with his bowed head. A pretty stark contrast with all the other weapons and symbols of violence.

beautiful work... but he doesn't look like Malcom.... or a man on any particular mission for that matter, some people have already brought up the possibility of this reflecting the dangers of inaction in the face of a society that does not treat with kindness or reward even the most well meaning and benign absolutists...

this is incredible.for the fist's in the air i think the best qoute would be "the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants", and the hands in the pockets could be "the best friend of oppresion is inaction".
well done.
