Description
Moperville North, a high school in my comic El Goonish Shive ( egscomics.com ), has a football team called the "Frenzied Turkeys". This particular mural is painted in at least three places within the fictional school.A friend of mine has a fantasy football league, one I joined in spite of not knowing much about football (though I do own "Football for Dummies"). My player choices ranged from picking people recommended by NFL.com's magazine on Fantasy Football, players with weird names ( TJ Houshmandzadeh ), and players nobody else were picking just to show them some love (as was the case with a rookie selection).
My team within the league is named, of course, the Frenzied Turkeys, and uses this very logo. I don't expect to win the league, but darn it, my turkeys shall intimidate all who oppose me! MUH-HAHAHAHA!!!

Easily in the top 10 best fictitious team names ever... although my favorite is still the South Harmon Institute of Technology Sandwiches.

Those are some pretty intimidating turkeys. y'know, they're putting in another mural?

I am, as of this moment, still intimidated by this turkey. Like their spiteful possibly cousins the swan, a turkey can break a man's arm with the sweep of a tire iron. And they don't have a chin under their wattle, just another fist.

Not TJ Houshmanzadeh! He could very well be one of the biggest assholes in the entire NFL. I actually cheered when I saw him get injured against San Diego last year.
As much of a douchebag as he is, he'll get you some points, though.
*is a rabid football fan*

Oh, I'm from Pittsburgh, by the way. Seeing as how Cincinnati plays in my [The Steelers'] division, I have all sorts of reasons to hate them.
AT LEAST HE'LL GET YOU SOME POINTS.

I have trouble getting into football without Fantasy Football helping, or friends nearby who are excited about it. This gives reason to care about the outcome of games and root for particular players.
...with that in mind, I tried to avoid selecting anyone with glaring criminal records...

well, thats just bad captainship, to have criminals on your team. much better to keep the criminally inclined away from yourself, makes you look better..

You know, I already replied to this, but I feel I must ask how exactly you know the intimidation factor of turkeys. Was there... an incident? o_o

When...you spend the night on your grandparent's farm...and at 5 in the morning you hear the turkeys in the yard...mating...(shudders)
Oh, that and there was a scene from that movie "Homeward Bound" in which one of the dogs confronted a giant turkey and wound up running away.
Yes...Turkeys can be scary.

I once saw a wild turkey walking around a nearby subdivision... it appeared pretty mild mannered, though I have no idea what it was doing there o_o

...hey, what's Moperville South's mascot? I don't remember if it was ever mentioned...

I'm not certain yet, but they're likely to have something more respectable. MNHS is a school with a much more sensible administration.

Just the counciling that's kinda messed up? Heh, all the school councilor types I've run into much have been almost too sympathetic... and kinda scary at times. But then, I've never attended a big school. ^^

Picture someone asking about the mascot when Mr Verres walks into the principles office and when he leaves the principle says there is no mascot implying of course that before Mr Verres entered the picture there was.
Just a thought

Incidentally, one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite episodes of Scrubs is when JD thinks "Thank you, Football for Dummies". I could relate all too well

I spent about a minute laughing.
But I'll be danged if that isn't one frenzied turkey, and a killer backstory to go with it.
GO TURKEYS!

Leave it to Moperville North to choose a gray turkey. Still, any team with "Frenzied" in its official name has something going for it.
