Still with me (Seven Lions remix) - Tritonal
Well, it looks like it was about time for me to try the 'draw it again meme' here on dA. I did have alot of people saying I have improved but I didn't really find myself convinced of it. Therefore I decided to do it and really feel that I've come along way. In the spirit of things, I decided to take an image from approximately 2 years ago (not even as it was uploaded Oct 24, 2010) and give it the ol' DS treatment.

This is what we have and quite honestly I'm scared over how different they are. @_@.
This proves alot of things to me, but I'll write that in the meme itself. This was loads of fun and shows me that I'm very far along in comparison to 2010. Heh, just a few short years.
Thanks to everyone who attended the LS, It means alot with your support. I probably wouldn't be anywhere close to this level if it wasn't for you guys.

thank you considerably for the critique. I'm glad you took the time to real get into the nitty-gritty of the picture itself xD. (just might want to correct that his name is Syron, not storm xD). Storm was just the title of the particular piece in question.
As far as addressing the odd lines and textures, it was bound to happen either way because when I get so involved in something, I often overlook tiny things here and there, but that's all part of the learning process. xD.
I'm really glad you like the development of not only the art, but Syron's development from going from a Sonic Fan character, to something else entirely. To me, being able to redesign something so drastically and keep the essence of what made him special to me in the first place is a huge thrill and I love every second of it.

I hope this will be an adequate enough critique. I honestly love this piece. Everything about it is just so well done. The shading, the color choices, and the originality is just perfect. A HUGE improvement over the original. It's not hard to see your growth as an artist. Even the minute details like the lighting coming off the character's hand, the energy collecting in that spot. Even the rips in the character's clothing is better.
As for the background. I like it, the setting sun and the colors that melt together are amazing, but part of me feels like there's something missing. Maybe something that gave a bit more of an impact. Or maybe I'm just missing the intended feeling behind the piece.
The character is completely unique. I didn't even notice at first that his fur kinda transitions into a diamond looking spike. That's pretty cool, and I love the glow affects. It's really hard to see someone that is able to achieve that affect without damaging the work around it. A lot of times I see a smear attempt in maybe a club setting, or a character with bio luminescence, but it just isn't executed properly. Comes out looking more like someone spilled some extra paint and someone tried to clean it up.
This actually looks like it's glowing from within the character's body itself. It doesn't ruin the background, or any part of the character. You can tell the artist paid a lot of attention to detail. You actually cared to make a significant improvement over the original work and didn't just take the meme and slap something basic that barely showcased what you're actually capable of.

Addressing the background issue, I wasn't sure how deep to go with it primarily because I didn't want it distracting 'too' much from the character in the piece (getting contrast between the stormcloud and the large violet crystals was tough enough). But I see what you mean. Maybe another focal point would help move the eye more thoroughly through the image and get more motion.
Thank you for the bioluminescence comment. I try so hard to get that to look proper and 'natural' although it is very very far from being that way xD. I'm a pretty big stickler for getting lighting accurate in settings like this so I spend alot longer than most with it.

I definitely think it deserves the "daily deviation" award. The perspective is really well done I like how his near hand is blurred. The style and detailing is quite well done as well. I think my favorite thing about the picture is all the complex lighting and glow effects the eyes 'pop' out nicely. (and the hairstyle reminds me of Japanese cartoon games.) Is he part crystal? and the picture looks vector based.

The colors, lighting, pose, and overall composition of this are really fantastic. And after taking a peek at the first version, I am blown away at your improvement! Keep up the excellent work, and congratulations on a much deserved DD.
