Stamp Request for ~gaarasbestbuddy0 (lol u mad).so i made a journal earlier asking whether or not you thought Shadow the Hedgehog should have remained dead after SA2. I thought yes and here's why. I don't hate the character by any means, but what Sega's done with him recently has really defeated the purpose of his original design.
He was put in SA2 to serve as a rival to Sonic and to provide the underlying drive to the story of how a revenge-filled villain can go from being evil, to becoming the greatest of heroes by sacrificing it all in the end to save the entirety of humanity.
SA2's ending made it so Shadow filled his role to its entirety. You dont need games like Shadow the Hedgehog to go into backstories that only muddy the character.In a sense, everything we need to know about shadow (or all that is necessary for him to be a strong character) seems self contained in SA2. A character that goes from being a vengeful villain to becoming one of the greatest heroes in his final acts is storytelling perfection. Its bittersweet. We hate to see him go but we were overjoyed of what happened while he was here and couldn't ask for any more.

Yes i know he's a good character, but think of it this way: Not every fantastic movie needs a sequel to be great. Sometimes the best things are the ones we only get for a short time. Then we realize how great it actually is because of how limited and wondrous it is in its prime. It forces you to savor it, and that is what truly makes something memorable.
but hey! money $$$. Yeah... Shadow is one of SEGA's cash cows...
That's my opinion. He should've remained dead. The story seems so much better that way in terms of impact.

I understand your point of view completely! And I agree...to a point. But Shadow has also become kind of a different character when Sega brought him back...*sigh* I wish they could've kept him alive, but they way they did it...yeah, I can agree with you.

Shadow the Hedgehog was the second Sonic game I ever played, the first being Sonic and Tails, and the game itself is still one of my favorites. Since then, I've played SA and SA2, and I do think it would have been better if he had remained dead because it defeated the purpose. However, it was Shadow the Hedgehog which actually got me interested in playing other Sonic games, and had he remained dead I probably wouldn't own the 12 or so Sonic games I have. ^-^' I'm glad they brought him back, if only because his game is what led me to by more Sonic games. ^-^'

Agree, Shadow is my favorite character, but he just lose his main purpose and started to lose the point of appearing in games, and now he just ended like a backround character...
...do you imagine how awesome should have been if Shadow never appeared in another game, and come back in Generations? As result of time travel of course, he should have never know what was happening on the Generations storyline, he would be just figthing Sonic to avoid that he could make it to the ARK.
Also, the Sonic personality changed, at least in the Dreamcast games you can see it angry, or with another feelings, and now hes just with a smile on his face everytime...
...I dont want a Sonic Adventure 3...

I want it to, but they would make with the current characters personality, thats the only REAL problem in the current Sonic games, also the current style of how they write the storys are just dumb.

Well, at first I was glad to have him back...but in all honesty, I hate his character now. If you finished ShTH, then you know that he literally threw away his past so he could move on. WTF. I was so freakin' mad. He had purpose, but then he threw it away. And now he's just used to make fans happy.
So, I do think he'd be better off dead in SA2, but while he's around, I wish that they'd calm down with including him in games, if not make him just an accessible character instead of a story revolving around him, that way other characters like Silver can actually have some of the limelight. Then when things have calmed down, bring him back. I just hope they give him better of a purpose than what Free Riders gave him: Basically just in it for the money.

I understand that you want Shadow to be remain dead but how do you think the fanbase would be? Worse than what it is right now. The reason why SEGA put Shadow back in the games was basically because of his popularity. And same thing with the game. If you're going to complain to someone, it's the fans of Shadow. Not SEGA themself because they were also planning to remain Shadow dead but the fans liked him so much that they put him back.

If I was mad, I'd use giant letters. I just think you're being unfair for saying that SEGA put Shadow back because of cash when it was basically the fans who wanted Shadow back AND also wanted to know about his past. Which is why Shadow is ''not what he used to be'' according to you.
Would you say the same thing when Blaze ''died'' in next gen when she basically dissapeared? And would say that SEGA put her back because of cash aswell based on how popular she is?

I agree. The story in SA2 really told us all we need to know about Shadow. The story was good and strong as it was. He serves his purpose and there was no need for him to come back.
Though I was happy to see him come back in Heroes being the fan that I am, I wasn't happy with raising the whole 'Is he a clone?' question. Then having his own game that was suppose to answer that question. It didn't work, I felt, with all the multiple endings and then having the final ending stomp on all those supposed 'This is who I am' conclusions that he came to. So, he's the original? He's a robot? He's a clone? ...He's an alien with daddy issues? ...WHAT?
Really great choice on the picture. That's got to be one of the best of him.

Oddly enough, I am a HUGE Shadow fan. And I think he would have done better if he stayed dead too... He was a TRUE Hero at the end of Sonic Adventure 2. I think Shadow might even have more fans if he stayed dead too. Because there is a few people I know who only like him in Sonic Adventure 2. Then after that they hate him for some reason. And if he stayed dead the games might even been better. This is all only my mere opinion though. ^^

I think the reason they brought him back was for fanservice to his fantards.
He was fine in SA2 but the other games he was in SUCKED.

Shadow fantards are People who are OBSESSED with Shadow. They often write cheesy fanfics about their Mary Sue or them falling in love with him. They practically treat Shadow like he is a god. Many seem to forget that Sonic is the main character.

I agree to an extent. I believe he should have stayed dead. His character was cocky and 'darker' than Sonic. He wasn't meant to be evil but rather the anti-hero, only doing what was best for himself and not really concerned with the wishes of others. Then Sega brought him 'back to life' and every game he was in after SA2 depicted him as this 'haunted past' oh boo hoo character were he whined about every little thing. As much as I hate the word, they turned him 'emo'. Which isn't what he was supposed to be at all. He still had flashbacks in SA2, but they weren't hindering him or making him cry all the time. In fact, the way they played out in SA2 made it seem as if they inspired and helped him rather than hurt him.
They did the same thing with Rouge. Rouge was actually a decent character in SA2. She had more to her than 'treasure hunter with tits.' After SA2 though, she became eye candy and nothing more. Her voice actors didn't help her case either.
NOW, had Sega not butchered his character and kept him the snarky, sarcastic anti-hero we knew in SA2 I would have hated it if he died. But of course, that didn't happen. I'm a Shadow fan to the bone and as a kid I had a huge 'cartoon character crush' on him just like any other fangirl. But in my opinion, dead is how he should have stayed.

In my opinion he should be able to appear in some of their games but he shouldn't appear in the games that have sonic with a main plot. However games like Sonic Rivals or Sonic at the Olympics would be fine to add him in. That way people can still see their favorite character they know and love yet still know in rl hes as dead as a door nail xD

Shadow needs to be killed off. He was cool in SA2 but in the newer games he acts like a total emo and is too cliched. He basically has little purpose in the newer games. He should have stayed dead at the end of SA2. Before you call me a nostaligia fag I would like to point out that I like Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations.
