This really has been in my system for a while, and I thought I'd just get it out. People are always and I mean ALWAYS missing the point of certain things in media, like children's TV shows!
For example, there's Thomas & Friends: Sodor's Legend of The Lost Treasure. During the dynamite chase scene aftermath, where the Fat Controller scolds Thomas, people either take sides with Thomas or the Fat Controller, praising one and demonizing the other, without looking at both sides of the story! Yes, it is true that Thomas had tricked Ryan with the bad coal, but he was trying to save him from the dynamite (which Ryan accidentally ignited, thanks to him having bad coal). And you could say that TFC was being a wee too harsh on Thomas, but when you look at it from his POV, he thought that Thomas was trying to kill Ryan with the dynamite (from what he saw from his car) and Thomas had wasted tons of dynamite, no thanks to it being ignited by mistake and it being dumped into a hole. Also, when you find out what Thomas did prior to this such as derailing coaches at Knapford (which was provoked by Gordon) and ignoring a warning by workmen, he had every right to send Thomas to his shed, for everything he had done. Thankfully, Thomas earned his redemption by trying to stop Sailor John from getting away with the treasure, which TFC praised him for.
Another example is the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Episode "The Ending of the End: Part 2". godzillavkk , (one of my enemies) stated on TV Tropes that many fans of FiM didn't feel happy that Cozy Glow didn't get her redemption because since the show had always done redemption prior to this, she expected her to reform. However, what she didn't know that "redemption" and "second chances" was for those willing to accept other ponies and species as friends, which Cozy did not. That's not the Aesop of the episode, either. The Aesop was, to quote TV Tropes, "All good deeds have a legacy. Even if bad things happen in the meantime, good things leave a lasting impact that isn't so easily erased." and "Friendship grows stronger the more people believe in it." The thing is, Cozy Glow didn't believe in friendship, no thanks to her tricking the mane 6 and joining Lord Tirek and Queen Chrysalis. Also, that so-called "horrifically cruel fate worse than death" was what they deserved, since those 3 villains did not accept friendship.
So, there you have it. The lesson to teach is to not miss the point of certain things in media, and not jump to conclusions. Not only is it stretching the truth, but it also is irrational.
