I wonder do you sit and stare for a long time waiting for something to emerge or crystalize. Or do you almost instantly see the stand of trees with a dragon, a field of ghosts and dragonflies or an owl?
The dragon snorting smoke looks like it has always been there just waiting for you to realize it.

Usually I see at once the main direction of the picture, and detect where the up will be. Sometimes I see at once what exactly it will be, and sometimes it takes time to detect it. And sometimes I start drawing and then suddenly see something that may be added.
In this very case I saw the landscape and wings at once, then - for some time - I was deciding how to place a dragon, and the smoke from the nostrils had popped up nearly by chanse
