Description As asked by Ladysilver, here come a full pic of the AF main cast with their redesigns. I finally added Kevin^^ I apologize for not putting either Rook or Max, but I simply cannot draw Max right, and I'll need some times to be able to make Rook.

I am not especially proud of the way the character come up, especially Kevin. Well, at least, he still looks better than in Omniverse, I guess...

.... Because I chose to base the mana part of her design on AF, where her magic is pink?

You will have to give more developped arguments; Cause frankly I don't see at all how merely changing her magic's color is boring and stupid.

Gwen using Blue Magic is better because Pink is cliche and boring so changing Her Magic Color from Blue to Pink is BoringΒ

....... actually I can't think of any story where magic is pink. On the other hand I know TONS of story with blue magic.

Frankly who the heck cares? It's not like the color of her magic makes that big of a change. For all I care she could be shooting purple or red magic and she would still be awesome as long as she does magic.

Okay, NOW you are starting to make sense.

Except for one thing: blue for girls is just as clichΓ© as pink, by now. Also it's not like they emphasize Gwen's feminity with it: she still dresses in blue. So yeah, I am fine with it.

One: tomboys can be boring and non-tomboy CAN be interesting (and trust me I love tomboys). This is a horrible prejudice to say that sort of thing.

Two: Gwen never really was a tomboy frankly. She had SOME tomboyish traits, but I never considered her one. I mean, come on! She liked shopping, she was more mature than Ben, she was happy to take part in a wedding and she learnt how to dance. NONE of this is tomboyish.

I did a similar thing, albeit I haven't drawn it.

I have an ongoing fanmade series called Super Smash Bros. Crossover that features characters from multiple franchises. Ben, Gwen, and Kevin are in Super Smash Bros. Crossover in their AF/UA incarnation due to my refusal to acknowledge Omniverse as canon within the context of Super Smash Bros. Crossover. However, since I rebooted the series, I eventually decided to update the appearance of several characters to their most recent iteration. However, I hated Omniverse and was reluctant to update Ben's Team to their Omniverse incarnation so I came to a compromise by combining the AF/UA designs with the Omniverse designs.

Ben Tennyson has his Omniverse outfit, but without the ridiculous haircut and still possessing the Ultimatrix.

Gwen Tennyson has her second Omniverse design (I even give an explanation for the glasses in that Gwen had been given some of Kabuto Yakushi's DNA and she acquired his power along with some of his characteristics, including his poor eye sight), but retains her longer hair from AF/UA (no longer in a ponytail) and lacks the freckles (which I found a pointless addition). Gwen also has contact lens on when she isn't doing school work so she doesn't always need her glasses (this is because I don't want Gwen, who plays a major role in the reboot as the Dark Messiah, to look like a NERD and to maintain the secondary theme of the reboot, which is to choose your own destiny).

Kevin Levin had the least changes. The only parts of his second Omniverse design I incorporated were the blue straps, the padlock, the striped shirt, and the tear on his jeans. Other than that, Kevin looks identical to how he did before (No chin whiskers because he looked filthy).

I've conceived a second design for Gwen Tennyson in the reboot that is exclusive to Super Smash Bros. Crossover. If you want to know about it, just mention it in the response.

Interesting.... I would be glad to know about this new exclusive Gwen redesign.

Seems like a good compromise you made, though personnally I like Ben better with his jacket. Then again, your story your choices. Kevin seems a good balance.

But who is Kabuto Yakushi exactly, and how did Gwen get some of his dna ? Otherwise, clever way to explain the glasses.

Personnally, rather than just ignoring Omniverse, I'd rather go for a complete reboot that rework the story for the start. I think that'd be the only one to really "clean up the continuity" instead of, you know, making even more confusing retcon like Omniverse did....

MaxwellCohen5211997 In reply to Darinas [2013-10-09 11:27:08 +0000 UTC]

1. Gwen's redesign is a new transformation in Super Smash Bros. Crossover. In it, Gwen's hair becomes white, she gains a sleeveless shirt with a stripe that forms an arc on the front (think Darkseid's Final Crisis outfit), and her eyes become red with black sclera. Gwen also has 2 scars on her face in this form, one across her eyes and one down the left side of her face (the face scar was inflicted by Ben when the two cousins fought in Gwen's previous life [reincarnation is a major factor of my series] after she had become an extremist, and the scar on her face was inflicted by a mindless Obito Uchiha after he had become the Ten Tails' jinchuuriki). This makes Gwen look like the old continuity Kabuto Yakushi's appearance in the reboot.

2. Thanks. I like Ben's jacket too and I do want to implement it back in the future. I couldn't stand Kevin's second redesign because he looked like he hadn't showered in weeks, and the chin whiskers didn't help him.

3. Kabuto Yakushi is a villain character from the Naruto franchise. Gwen got his DNA during the old continuity when he injected his blood into her, which she allowed since Gwen had become insane by the end of the old continuity due to the permanent death of the Kevin Levin she knew (Gwen felt a reincarnated Kevin couldn't replace the one she loved).

4. I would go for that, except that I can't reboot Ben 10 since it isn't my work.

2) Glad we agree on that. And yes, Kevin looks absolutely awful in Omniverse.

3) Oooo, THIS Kabuto^^' I don't follow Naruto much so I haven't really memorized his family name.

4) Well I did try to do a fanfic reboot. Problem is I lack the time a proprer motivation.

MaxwellCohen5211997 In reply to Darinas [2013-10-09 20:50:09 +0000 UTC]

I know it sound complicated, but if I could make Super Smash Bros. Crossover into a machinima, you would see a well-written plot and fleshed out characters throughout (the exception to this is during the final chapter of the old continuity where the Smash World had become a hellhole, although this was due to me having a mental breakdown at the state of the real world), with multiple art styles at work to make a beautiful looking series that gets better as it progresses. As for Gwen taking on an appearance similar to the old Kabuto Yakushi's redesign (minus the scars), it is a subtle reference to how Kabuto resembled Orochimaru after integrating his remains into his body, in terms of inspiration. In the context of Super Smash Bros. Crossover's plot, however, it symbolizes how Kabuto's cruelty continues to scar Gwen even after the reboot.

I had low faith in Omniverse too. When I finally began watching Omniverse, I watched It Was Them (A Khyber episode) and actually enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I learned through TV Tropes just how flawed Omniverse was, and I ultimately got so mad at how it has insulted Dwayne McDuffie's legacy that I just gave up on Omniverse. I will return to Omniverse for any future Khyber episodes, and if The Ultimate Heist is good I may just watch the Ultimate Albedo Arc.

BTW, you are right about T.G.I.S. being inferior to Heroes United, though I felt the Saturdays were in-character. The biggest thing that pissed me off was Mr. Baumann stopping Ben from transforming just to keep his shop from being destroyed while chupacabras were on a rampage. I may not like Ben's character regression, but I would not stop a superhero from doing his job if I was able to.

I see... just curious, what tropes especially disgusted you from the show? I have written a lot of the pages, so I might be responsible^^'

Yeah, the Albedo arc is what is keeping me interested as well. Though I am afraid of how they will deal with that. Albedo is one of my favourite AF villains, how they don't screw it up too much... Then againΒ  they managed to disappoint me even more than I expected so far.

Well, to be fair, I was referring to the designs rather than the characters' personnalities. I also watched only like three episodes of Secret Saturday to prepare myself to the crossover, so my opinion might not be perfect. But I agree, that part with Beamann was stupid. Especially since HIS STORE WAS ALREADY BEING WRECKED AND HIS CUSTOMERS AGGRESSED!!!

I'd have to say Aesop Amnesia, Author Appeal, Back From The Dead, Broad Strokes, Butt Monkey, and Canon Discontinuity (ESPECIALLY Canon Discontinuity).

My faith in Omniverse is pretty low. I don't even expect the Albedo Arc to be good. Like I said, I'm only watching The Ultimate Heist for Khyber, but if Albedo impresses me I'll stay for his arc.

Darinas In reply to MaxwellCohen5211997 [2013-10-21 14:36:12 +0000 UTC]

I can see why Aesop Amnesia, Broad Strokes, Butt Monkey and Canon Discontinuity make you mad, for the simple reason it makes me mad as well. I gotta ask out of curiosity, why do Back From The Dead and Author Appeals seem bad to you as well?

Same here; I am mostly curious because I actually wanted Albedo to get a real story arc. Problem is, I am afraid they throw his sympathetic motivations out the window and makes him a generic "Conquer the Universe" villain (I already said several times why the whole conquering the Universe is dumb).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxwellCohen5211997 In reply to Darinas [2013-10-21 19:46:26 +0000 UTC]

I will describe what TV Tropes said;

Back from the Dead: "T.G.I.S.", the crossover episode with The Secret Saturdays, sees that series' Big Bad, V.V. Argost ressurected by Dr. Animo.

This pissed me off because the series finale of The Secret Saturdays was so satisfying. Argost was defeated and Zak lost his powers, meaning he could finally live a normal life. However, the victory was not without a cost, as Van Rook sacrificed himself to save Drew Saturday. I was so mad at Argost's ressurection because there were so many other villains to choose from, it made Van Rook's sacrifice pointless, and it meant nothing because Argost dies in the end anyway.

I honestly forgot why I don't like Author Appeal.

I wouldn't hold it past Omniverse to ruin Albedo's characterization.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Darinas In reply to MaxwellCohen5211997 [2013-10-22 01:40:40 +0000 UTC]

I see... yeah, I can see why that makes you mad. It's not even like Argost accomplished anything by coming back anyway. In the end he was defeated thanks to Deus Ex Machinalien... sorry I mean Feedback. To be fair though, any antagonist other than Argost wouldn't have had the same impact. Then again, they could have very well just created a new villain for the special, like Man of Action did with Heroes United.

If well I checked; Author Appeal mentions that Galvans and Gourmand get more screentime because they are DJW's favourite aliens.

MaxwellCohen5211997 In reply to Darinas [2013-10-23 19:53:53 +0000 UTC]

No need to hide your thoughts on Feedback. While he is an interesting alien, Feedback is way too overused (ironic when Ben's overuse of Feedback was bad enough that even Azmuth was concerned). I can think of another villain that could work besides Argost...Abbey Grey, who could have been hired by Dr. Animo to destroy Ben while he forms an army of chupacabras to take over the world, and the Saturdays would come in to deal with the chupacabras, teaming up with Ben in the process. As for a new villain, I can't think of one.

I checked too, and I still don't know why Author Appeal bothered me.

Darinas In reply to MaxwellCohen5211997 [2013-10-24 08:50:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks^^'

Thing is, there are three thing I dislike about Feedback:
- His look: I just hate the fact they made him basically a living Dynamo. Man of Action must be running out of idea, cause their previous aliens were much cooler. I mean, it's not as stupid as Bloxx, but still, I just can't buy the concept of a creature like that being conceived naturally. They could have at least made him look more organic.
- The fact he is not only overused as you say, but they basically try to hammer in our head that he is "cool and awesome". Granted, his power is useful and nice, but I have yet to see any indication that would confirm he is cooler than, let's say, XLR8, or Big Chill. Or Heatblast. Or Chromastone, who has basically the same powers. Or Diamondhead. Truth is, Feedback never marked me as great, and I am pretty sure he would have gone unoticed if not for the whole deal they made around him.
- Last but not least, the HORRIBLE deux ex machina that arrived around him in the finale. Azmuth was VERY clear on the fact that Ben could NEVER get him back (which already doesn't make sense, seeing how Ben changed his Omnitrix twice), yet somehow Ben gets him back in the finale with no explanaiton whatsoever. I expected this to happen, but thought there was gonna be, you know, a logical explanation for that change! And of course the fact he suddenly turns out to be the weakness for Argost in TGIS...

Yeah, I see what you mean.

1. I see what you mean, but I think Feedback's design is okay. Then again, I like all of the aliens.

2. That is annoying that they're trying to make us think that Feedback is "COOL AND AWESOME". However, for 11-year old Ben, I can let it slide because Ben liked his newest transformation and because he was getting addicted.

3. Feedback's return was horrible, but my theory is that Malware simply stored the Conductoid DNA in him (the DNA fragment is technically a piece of the Omnitrix, thanks to that horrible retcon of Primus) and the dissolved body of Feedback was because the DNA was no longer connected to the Omnitrix. While it is stupid to say that the other Omnitrixes couldn't accept Conductoid DNA, perhaps Azmuth lied to keep Ben from getting addicted to Feedback again. Of course, this is only a theory.

Darinas In reply to MaxwellCohen5211997 [2013-10-25 10:39:42 +0000 UTC]

1) Well, it's not bad per see, I just feel it's really hard to buy. I mean, what made the aliens in the Original Show so cool was that they had interesting, original idea behind their origins and biology (such as Pyronites being fire beings from a living star) and had those bizarre men-in-black-esque biology that made them feel like aliens. Alien Force wasn't as good at making original, but still managed to make rather likable aliens such as Big Chill (who had a genuinley cool design) or Rath (whose design isn't exactly original, but his attitude more than make up for it). In Omniverse, the only aliens I feel have rather good ideas to them are Astrodactyl and Gravattack. Most other aliens are either just slightly anthropomorphic animals that we are supposed to see as aliens (Kickin Hawk, Crashopper) or based on inanimate objects, which is stupid (Bloxx and Feedback). Then again, I'm glad if you liked them all.
2) Yeah, I know, but I wished they expored the whole addiction thing a bit more, cause there is so little about it it's barely more than a fan theory. Technically, all Azmuth said was that it was dangerous to abuse this form because it would make Ben lose control over his other aliens (which doesn't make sense but whatever).
3) Yeah, I heard that one. Another one was that Ben had a psychological blocking on using Feedback or some crap like that. Maybe that'd have worked if the narrators had explained...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MaxwellCohen5211997 In reply to Darinas [2013-10-26 22:07:54 +0000 UTC]

1. Well, I just like seeing Ben get more aliens. I don't fully like the new aliens for Omniverse because they came from Omniverse. In fact, ever since Omniverse, every time I wish something was done in Ben 10, I state that I wish it was done before Omniverse.

2. Yeah, the addiction aspect wasn't really explored that well. For everything Omniverse does right, it does everything else wrong.

3. That's a major problem with Omniverse. The writers don't care about a well written story. If they did, Ben and Julie's break up would have been handled much better.
