Description
"Beyond the Fields of Asphodel, where the souls wander in sorrow,
beyond the Acheron waters,
there I will wait for your return.
I walk away around shadows,
listening moans of pain and despair,
but the voices of thousand ghouls
will not ease your memory in my head.
And now that leaves fall around Earth,
a golden carpet will lead you to me.
And with the cold wind of the winter,
six pomegranate seeds do their duty.
Here, deep in the Underworld
you will find our ebony throne,
and your voice of promises and whishes
will bring life to the eternal dreamers."
My own version of Hades & Persephone. In the picture I portrayed they both, with Cerberus. At the left we can see Charon in his boat and the river Acheron, and in the other side the river Phlegethon, made of fire.
There's a step by step of this one here: [link]
Done in Photoshop.

it's not often a person can tell an entire story in just one frame but you seem to have no troubles doing it...fantastic!

I love the story of Hades and Persephone, and I really love your interpretation of it. Hades looks very young and handsome, not how he's usually depicted, but I certainly like it.

this picture is enchanting , you've taken your own take on a classic story, and it really showcases your style and draws the eye in - theres a connection between the two characters , and its easy to see . plus the colors are beautiful , i wish i could have the same control over them lol - i will study your step by step religiously !

Its a beautiful piece but it wasn't Persephone who controlled the changing of the seasons but her mother Demeter. It was her depression over the loss of Persephone that created winter. So the grass beaneath her feet and everything is a bit off in accuracy.

dark-spider In reply to randomhyperness0 [2007-11-17 22:43:53 +0000 UTC]
I know about that, but in some versions of the myth Persephone tooks part of the duty of her mother as a goddess of spring and rebirth. I choose to scenify one of these versions, that's the reason for the grass beneath her feet. It's just my interpretation, art doesn't need to follow exactly a story .

I don't know about the expression either. That isn't really as important to me as the entire piece though. Your people have great detail and colors. I think you do great with the body proportions, armour, clothing, ect.. How much time do you put into the backgrounds, compared to the main characters? Keep the great scenes coming!

well just to interject my opinion, i think you should've had the head tilted a little bit, but otherwise for me it's a fantastic scene

Oh my god wow. You're better than Linda Bergkvist. And that's a lot coming from me since I'm one of her biggest fans, she was the reason I started drawing. I really hope I can paint like that one day! How do have the patience to get through it?
