Description
The 4th tutorial in the series. My second one on playing around with the filters to get some quick awesome effects.. Next I want to make a quick tutorial on brushes/Actions so these kind of tutorials can be turned into an action for future and recreated in seconds!Further on I want to turn my attention to using the tools so keep a watch for my new ones!
Enjoy.

I've tried this twice now and both times I got to where you had to make a new layer just before you make the text black.
Each time I get a notice saying 'Could not make a new layer from the selection because pixels in at type layer cannot be modified without first rasterizing the layer.'
Any idea where I'm going wrong? It's all good till then.

Hey there, right so for some reason the layer your working on isnt Rasterized. Thats fine. To fix this small hiccup: Go to your layers on the right hand side, right click the layer that your working on and choose: Rasterize Layer.
Rasterizing is merely a process of unlocking a layer to be able to edit it. Before it's Rasterized it's kept locked up and at the same time this is usually to maintain it's high quality appearance. I.e if you import a vector graphic (.eps) into your document in .PS you'll have to 'Rasterize' it before you can edit the appearance of the image. A Final example: Once Rasterized, when you try to resize the image = it'll pixelate; whereas before-hand it is still linking to the original file and can resize itself maintaining exact quality.
I hope this helped and best of luck, this is quite tricky for a lot of people this tutorial, not the best wrote I must admit! Ben.

Hey man. Thanks for the help, it got my past that bit but I still couldn't work it all out by the end and my writing was black. I ended up playing around alot and made something I like.

It's quite different to the tutorial but it's what got me there. Hope you like it anyway

Without the stroke when you set the text to the filter you wouldn't see anything

i kinda try to make my lightning thru blending effects, mixing glow inner\outer glow with a white middle, like my avatar

Proves there are a few ways of doing it aye, I guess it just depends on which method your trying. This method is a fairly long process but one of my favorites as the clouds filter auto assigns crystal clear lightning lines

jea but i like my blending option style specially if i want to make some small lightning touches, nothing too fancy or even make the lightning in a way that the filter couldnt or at least not the way i want it
