It would be interesting to talk to Death itself. Really, you made me think of Death as a mere phase of life, and a peaceful transition to afterlife. So life is a world of suffering and tests sent by God, afterlife is the place you deserved during your life, and Death is just a midpoint between life and afterlife.

As far as people just doing a job go, the Grim Reaper can be rather preferrable, more so than tax collectors anyway.
