There is window in bottom part of wooden box sized approx 4,5cm x 5cm for this purpose. You can see smaller brass plate which is supposed to be as decorative cover for this window.

It can hold drive which thickness is up to 11mm.
I'm not sure about 1TB, but my 500GB fits perfectly leaving some extra space.
