Description
This is a drawing/painting I did for my Brother-In-Law over 20 years ago. It's the first time I ever got a picture of it so I thought I'd share it with you. It's a bit warped and I'll try and get a better picture of it later and edit it. I did it in watercolor with colored pencils for details and paint for the white bits. I actually used glow in the dark face make up to do the white bits because at that time they did not have glow in the dark regular paint, and I wanted the stars, etc. to glow when the lights went out. I hope you enjoy it.Related content

cool. this is how parts of Middle Earth looked to me when i first read The Lord Of the Rings... loooonnnng before Hollywood came along and made using your imagination obsolete.
it's a very beautiful drawing at any rate!

this is really a great image. Ever since I saw 'the dragon races' I've been hoping to see some more of your traditional. I know that it's hard for you, but youre just so good at it. This looks like the kind of thing you'd see as cover art for an Isaac Asimov novel. Love it.

Gorgeous <3333 I absolutely love the composition of this, especially in terms of the placement of that "empty" moon. Those sharp rocks and valley are really well done too *_* I love the mist that just kind of hangs over it all~
+fav, definitely.
PS: How are you? Sorry I haven't been commenting as much as I should be XD

Thank you so much. I'm so happy you commented on the mist because I was very happy with how that turned out. I too haven't been commenting because I can't stay at the computer long because of a bad ankle. As soon as it heals I'll be back!

That's exactly how I did that. Well, not coffee but I put white paint on the edge of a glass and pressed it to the paper then embellished it a bit. I wanted it to look like a phantom planet that would form into a solid when invading spaceships entered the airspace.

Great texture and those twisted growths made me think this was an Apo composition before I read the description. You were painting fractals, before fractals . . .

Thanks. You know, swirls and repeat patterns have always have showed up in my work for as long as I can remember. I did a painting for my Brother a long time ago that looks like a fractal too. Even the masks I've mad have lots of swirls and twists in them. I'm just a swirly girl!

That's so nice of you to say. I'd love to do more drawing. I'm going to try and work on something after the holidays. I appreciate your telling me all about DAZ. I think I'll be sticking to the old fashioned way of drawing for now. I don't seem to have the patience to teach myself anything new at this time. Perhaps in the future I'll get around to it.

Thank you very much. It was funny how it grew out of nothing. I just blobed on some black watercolors on a grey pastel paper and the went over it with colored pencils. The white paint was the finishing touch.

Thank you. Most of my drawings and paintings have been given as gifts. I have to get back to do more drawing soon. I started something last summer and got stuck on it and have never finished it. Maybe I'll finish that piece one day. I'd really love to do more fantasy drawings because I've always loved dragons and strange creatures and fairies etc. It's what I grew up doing but had to give up when my hands got so bad. Fratals have become my creative outlet because it's easy to do them.

You'll have to get back to drawing now that people have seen your work...
I agree that fractals are easier to do (especially as i'm not artistically inclined !)

A very nice painting/drawing. Nice to hear from you how resourceful you were in coming up with materials to get the effects you wanted. It's sad to hear about how bad your hands have gotten so you can no longer make these sorts of paintings without suffering in pain. Perhaps there's some kind of device for the computer that would enable you to draw and paint again, perhaps something that used your eye gaze to control the mouse instead of your hands? In any case I can definitely see some fractal like patterns in the landscape of the planet in the repetiton of the black bits that stick up from the surface. Even the warpage of 20 years adds more character to this piece.
Take care,
Paul

Thank you so much for you lovely comment. I'd love to someday be able to get one of those drawing tablets and see if I can do drawing with that. It's funny, but I think the reason I was drawn to fractal art was because it does come up with so many of the patterns I always used in my drawings.

I'm glad you liked the "empty moon" as you so brilliantly called it. I thought it would be cool to be able to see though a moon but have it still be there. Can you imagine the spaceships ruunning into it?
