Description This is my first time doing this...So PLEASE bear with me!
I use the program sai....if you do not use sai, that is not going to change the original image.

~Starting from the first one on the left and moving to the right and down to the left again, just like an American comic.
________
1: You start off with a rough sketch of what you want. Here you can see that I have used a pencil at 73% opacity. I sketched out all the main objects that I want aside the clouds and the moon. Those will come in later.
_________
2: From there, you add another layer below the sketch layer so you do not have to multiply it. Doing this, you are able to see where your horizon is as well as your objects. This makes it easier to paint over the sketch. Then you add your colors. Here I added several shades and hues of blue.
________
3: Take out your smudge tool at about 86-90% opacity or pressure and smudge horizontally until you like what you have. You can add more dark or light colors if you wish to get it about the right. Repeat smudging until its just right.
_______
4: Add a little bit of highlight in your sky. Lets say you have a moon or a sun? Remember a little goes a LONG way!
________
5: Continue smudging here and there. Add more highlight or shade if needed to get it to your liking. Do not worry about major detail, that will come later. This is just to get your base coloration for your sky and or ground.
_____________
6: Add another layer on top of your sky and land, but below your sketch. Color your objects with the base color you need. Here I used a slight greyish brown. No smudging is needed. Simply use your brush or pencil at 100% opacity.
_______________
7: Adding another layer, Select your Airbrush tool. Set it to about 80-95%. Add a darker color "shadow" for your detail in all of the objects. Add a small amount of detail here and there until your image is of liking.
Here, I have put lines to where the darker parts of the tree are going to be. Because of the light source being in the middle right, the shadows will be a little more intense on the left side of the picture. I have also added a little more color on #6 >beige and a little tan<
~Smoothing out the darker lines/detail in the trees, add another layer for step 8.
______________
8: This is where you will add your small detail in the object. Here we have some trees. I lowered the opacity of the sky layer, because it is so dark, so you can see the detail you will do with the tree. I added the smaller branches as well as a few small trees to even out the balance in the picture. Do not over do it on your branches. A little bit goes a long way with dead trees.
_________
9: Here I have added two layers. One for base moon color and one for the grass. Just like the sky color, you want to add your ground color just the same.

~Smudging the base grass coloration from your darker and lighter colors. Continue until this is to your liking.

~On the second layer below the tree layer but above the sky layer. Add in your moon/sun coloration. A little color goes a long way. You can either smudge or smear colors here. Do not worry about detail just yet in this layer. Add another layer on top of your sun/moon to make a glare or glow effect. You can also make the circle effect on the moon if you wish. this is not always necessarily needed.

~Add another layer here for the details on the grass. Add small detail with the brush/pencil with a stringy texture. Add the same or similar color of your grass on top of the grass layer.

~Add a layer on top of the tree layer. This will be your small/large detail in the tree, depending on your tree. I added a large amount of 90%black 10%brown color. I filled in the color completely I scratched it with the eraser, stringy texture, 90% opacity. Until I got the texture I wanted. Because these trees are dead, they will not have a lot of lively texture. They have aged and are rotty looking, thus you can see a lot of the bare tree.
________
10: Here, we add a layer on top of the grass and tree layers. Take your airbrush with a darkish blue or green or yellow, more black than the color. Opacity at about 95% large brush and slightly go over the area where the light source cannot get to. This is your main shadow. You can go over the main part of your objects to add more shadow to make it more realistic

~Because it is night time and the moon is full, the shadows will be a little darker than they would if it were daytime as your light source.

~IF you add too much shadow, don't worry, you can always go back and use your eraser at 30%-35% opacity and take a little bit away at a time.
_______

Now a lot of people have asked me how I do clouds. Honestly, I do not really use a smudge tool unless they are different colored clouds. You will not be required to use the smudge tool in this tutorial, however you can if it is easier for you.

11: Take the darkest color of your cloud with either your pencil at 100-90% or your airbrush at 100-95%. Here you will not have to worry about what it looks like.

~Add a few different Values of the color
>darker or lighter blue used here< Until you get your base color done.
_____
12: Start adding small amounts of lighter value color for the lighter sides of the clouds. Do this until it is to your liking.
~basic example would be, LOOK at your light source. Will it reach this area? Will it be lighter or darker in this area? What color will it be with this light source? Ect
