You know, I dislike having to type out this message every time I post a piece that violates someone's shipping sensibilities. Granted, I don't have to do that *often*, but still. I decided it would benefit from having a deviation button

I don't know what to tell ya, man. The HTML worked when I first used them upon upload (which, obviously, it's been awhile, and the site might have made some coding changes in the interim; I haven't been around on dA that much these days).
First and foremost though, just to make sure, you did include the '' part of the URL when you tried it, yes? I had to leave that portion out because otherwise it would've automatically gotten turned into one of those [link] things, which are entirely unhelpful when you're trying to HTML.

Strange. I am not a premium member and using stamps works just fine on my profile when I copy the thumb code...
But using deviation buttons and long buttons won't work.

You can't. You need to have a subscription/premium membership to use the thumb code.
