So I tried to so someing a bit more close up with Dusk, here. This piece was great fun. I tried to push my skills here and really try for something powerful. It has it's problems but all and all I'm happy with it.I really wanted to go for a shot that grabbed at you with this, something with depth and power. Now I guess it's up to you guys to decide if I managed to capture that or not.

Btw, I didn't put this for a while but I feel I should here. Dusk is mine and copyrighted. I will defend that too. So please ask and get permission first if you have any thoughts of using him for anything.

I like the depth, though it feels like the guys in the foreground were drawn with a fuzzy brush rather than drawn normally (well, sans lines) then blurred.
But yes, other than than, I like.

that was intended. It's called Depth of field. We see this in movies and photographs all the time. We also see it in art. your eyes, when focusing intently on something, tend to blur the rest out. photography and film tend to use that and exemplify that to their own ends.

I know. I meant that it looks wrong to my eyes, and that I would have drawn the foreground characters normally, then blurred them after the fact.

then you just get blurred, hard edged lines. I started that way and it looked bad. Honestly, I've shopped this pic around and you are the only person to say it looks wrong so I think, no offense, but you need to check again. Characters that are that blurred are going to lack definition, then we through on top of that the fact that these aren't even characters exactly, but filler. They are crowd and there is a point to having them be non-descript and out of focus and fuzzy.
I told you already that this was intended. To me it doesn't look to be an issue. So basically this sounds like a personal preference issue and not a real mistake.
I'm sorry you don't like it. not everyone will like a piece and I guess that's just your problem. I can see that your work is of a vastly different flavor than mine in your gallery so I think I'm pretty comfortable in saying as much.
I'm trying really hard to take this crit seriously, but if I may be so honest, this reads to me like a nit pick and people do that for a variety of reasons, to show off their knowledge, because they are jealous, or just for what ever reason. I don't know yet if that's what you are doing or if it really is that big of an issue to you, but I said it once and I'll say it again, it was intended, so I'm sorry if you don't agree with my method. you don't have to like it. It's cool with me if you don't XD

I think it's mostly the hair and fur on the guy on the left that bothers me.
I hope I didn't come off as needlessly picky. I do think the DOF looks wonky, but I still like the piece over all. :P

sure, no worries man. Like I said, art is different to everyone. That's how you see it and you're not wrong, neither am I though. I think it's a style chose I went for here and it's not jiving with your aesthetics. that's cool. XD

I love this. It really did catch my eye. Pulled me in. You can call it a success. his expression is spot on.
I hope I don't offend with a bit of critique. I would suggest taking out the word "that" in the second phrase. Just seems to make the phrase flow better. Not that big of deal just the writer in me.
