Description Charleston Falls nature preserve.

Taken with an infrared-modified Nikon D80. Visit Life Pixel to have your camera modified to infrared. Having a camera modified to shoot infrared is probably the best decision I've ever made as a photographer. It has simplified my workflow immensely.

No, when you convert a camera it will only shoot in infrared. The only way to go back to normal colour photography is to have the camera converted back again.

Life Pixel did my EOS 20D as well. Very happy with the results.

What a great scene you've captured here. Most impressive.

Beautiful, Steve. How long did it take for you to get the camera back? This is the neatest shot. The reflection is remarkable and it almost gives the feeling of having been shot with fisheye lens, at least to me this is how I see it. It is how the water is almost full circle that gives it that feeling, I think. Love it.

It didn't take long at all. Life Pixel had my camera in their possession for about 3 or 4 business days. On their website, they state that their normal turnaround time is 5 to 10 business days, and in my case, they got it done ahead of schedule. Granted, they may be busier during other times of the year. Since they're in Washington and I'm in Ohio, standard UPS shipping took 4 days each way. (Expediting shipping options are available, although it's insanely expensive.) Still, the grand total was under 2 weeks, and that's rather impressive. The work they did was absolutely top of the line as well. I totally recommend them.

Very nice. Can't wait to get a new camera so I can have the D50 converted.
I'd also like to see this in "natural" Nikon IR color.

thats incredible. its exactly the kind of thing I've been looking around for. no one in camera stores understand when I say I'm looking for "infrared" lenses. they all assume I mean night vision and things like that.

As far as I know, there's no such thing as an "infrared lens". To shoot infrared on a regular camera, you need an external filter which attaches to the lens. By far, the best infrared filter is the Hoya R72. Ask for that filter specifically, and if they don't have it in stock, just get one from Amazon.com. Before I had my D80 converted, all of my infrared work was done with the Hoya filter.

Thanks for your help! I've been trying to figure that out for awhile and its nice to have a recommended filter too. I didnt know where to start. When I (hopefully) get my Rebel XSI it'll work just fine with that hoya filter.

Ha, fooled you! It was almost 70 degrees outside when I took this. That's the magic of infrared.
