Description
Bob Kane and Bill Finger's inspirations for Batman were cult classic characters:Dracula, Zorro, Sherlock Holmes (as well as Doc Savage, The Shadow and The Phantom)
But I felt this worked better aesthetically.

Not really the phantom. Scarlett Pimpernel is another one, especially the way Sir Percy acts like an absent minded fop.

Funny Fact: Batman had a crossover with each of them! (with Dracula & Holmes for sure, don't know if it's the same for Zorro)

So then Superman would be Hercules + Jesus + Flash Gordon?

The Phantom is more like a combination of Zorro and Tarzan. But yeah this thing is great and so true.

Very clever and nicely done. If I'm not mistaken the first Batman story was "borrowed" from a story with The Shadow.

I see it as a simple, flat, monotone/B&W style, it is totally a style that catches my attention so I figured I'd give it a shot with this idea. And thank you

Well if you have an understanding of Zorro it is quite obvious. Zorro is a caped crusader/vigilante who fights for justice. He has an alter ego where he is wealthy. (and obviously he gets the detective skills from Holmes, and the scary bat theme costume from Dracula)
Some facts stolen from Wikipedia:
Zorro's Stats:
- Superb athlete, horseman, swordsman, marksman, and unarmed combatant
- Well educated, wealthy and cultured nobleman
- Master of stealth
- Extensive scientific knowledge and advanced gadgets
There is also an easter egg in most tellings of Batman's origin because the night his parents were murdered they were leaving the movie theatre (the movie they had just gone to see was Zorro)

it totally is, there are so many similarities. Many people may not even know because the similarities can be so subtle. But it is some great facts to know that Batman was put together using such iconic characters.

In the origin story written by Frank Miller, they show Bruce and his family leaving the movie, Mark of Zorro. Zorro was also a popular pulp fiction character before Batman, and his persona of a hero pretending to be a mild-mannered rich boy may have inspired Bruce's character.
