Description
Stygian is another name for the River Styx, said river is a the river of the dead in the underworld.

Another meaning for Stygian is 'very dark' in literary terms. Like saying the word abyss.

An example: He looked into the stygian night, never seeing the sight of a single light.

Ironic that he helped seven ponies come back from being sealed for a thousand years.

Something doesn't make sense though, Celestia was the same exact height she was a thousand years ago when Luna went Nightmare Moon. Twilight's vision from the Plunder Vine fiasco showed us that much and Starswirl said she grew bigger, so Starswirl disappeared for far more than one thousand years. I'm guessing 'a thousand years' is a colloquially used term for something in the far past and not an exact measurement of time. You know since Luna came back long before Starswirl did and I guess saying one thousand and so and so years would be a mouthful. At best I'm guessing one thousand twenty years at least.

The one thing I hate about this episode is that it somewhat legitimizes EQG 2 at least, but doesn't explain how the sirens got to where they went if they were sent to the same limbo the pony of darkness ended up in.
