Description
Here are a few of the steps that went into turning a nerf gun into a plasma rifle. I really have to learn to stay to one background and the same camera when I do these things. Next time I'll plan better. Here and here are some closer shots.

It looks like it's no longer functional since the clip is no longer there, you can't move the pump-loading-thingy (look at my extensive knowledge of gun parts), and the barrel is blocked. It looks great, it would just be fun to shoot friends with a nerf gun that looks like a plasma rifle.

It's fun and rewarding! Not to mention how awesome you feel when you're carrying a plasma rifle around downtown.

That is a neat idea. And much easier to get than test prescription bottles.

Can I ask what you used for the yellow flask on the bottom and the bit on the tip? c:

Are you talking about the MF Cell? If so, I used a little pill bottle that I received as a sample and painted over it.
The end is a glass cylinder I found at a garage sale along with some craft wire circling it and for the tip. It wasn't very sturdy, so I might have to find a replacement yet.

Try disassembling the blaster before paintingβ this allows more control over the surfaces, and a nicer overall look.
Very nice however!

Thanks!
I had done some minimal dis-assembly with the first lighter gray layer, but then ended up not for reasons I'm not really sure of. I'd definitely consider keeping it disassembled for longer next time. It was pretty hard to get in some of the cracks with the spray paint. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks!
My biggest tip: don't be afraid to mess up, since you can always make it work for you.
Other, more practical tips: have someone look over your work. My husband has helped me immensely with telling me what was bad and what was working. He also helped me with the more technical work. Finding the right kind of gun as a base is also important. I was really happy when I found this Nerf gun since it was about the right shape and size. Otherwise, garage sales were my best friend when making this stuff.
Are you making one just for fun?

Yeah, it'll be just for fun, possibly as a gift for a friend.
