Nik chuckled, hopping up and smiling

Luther grinned, glad that Nik was trusting him. Lifting his new friend closer, Luther gently ruffled his hair.

Nik laughed, pushing at his finger. "Hey~!"

Luther smiled, retracting his finger. Then he reached for Nik again. His finger stopped less than an inch from the other boy's wings, and Luther made a questioning expression while shaking his head.

Nik blinked, confused, then looked at his wings. "Um...if you wanna touch them, then you can...just be gentle..."

Luther was confused. Earlier, before even worrying about his own personal safety, Nik had practically begged him not to touch his wings, and now he was saying to go ahead?

Nik looked up at Luther, smiling. "Don't worry...now that I know for sure you wouldn't hurt me...I wouldn't mind cleaning my feathers if you touched them..."

Luther raised an eyebrow, looking at his hand. It wasn't dirty... Why would Nik need to clean his feathers afterwards?

Nik blushed. "Sorry...I know your hands are clean, but...I rely on my wings and each individual feather to do stunts in the air...so I clean them even if they're not dirty..."

Luther nodded, lowering his hand again. He wouldn't mess with Nik's wings.

Nik smiled a bit, chuckling. "...I like you."

Luther grinned. He liked the little bird fellow too. Looking around again, Luther gave a slow wave before turning his confused expression to Nik. Where on Earth was this?

He looked around, sighing. "I don't understand."

Sighing, Luther reached over and picked up one of the things with the annoying blinking lights. Only when it made a tearing sound and wires dangled from it did he realize that it had been attached to the floor and wall. He grimaced. Oops.

Nik's eyes widened in surprise when Luther reached over and picked up one of the machines, wincing. "...the lab's gonna have to pay for that..." He said, then chuckled. "Why don't you put it back down?"

Luther gave him an apologetic look, lowering the machine to the floor again. Then something Nik had said struck him, and Luther hurriedly shifted the small birdboy from his right hand to his left. Dipping his finger in the water again, he wrote, 'lab?'

Nik nodded. "Yeah...currently you're in a lab...humans are supposed to be extinct, but we found you encased in ice...the ice preserved your body...we had no idea it saved your mind too..."

Luther almost stopped breathing. Extinct? He... he was the last living human? Wide eyes focused on Nik again. How long? How long had the rest of his species been dead for?

Nik frowned a bit, confused. "...are you okay, Luther...?" He asked, concerned

Luther shook his head. He was still shocked. It was far too much to take in.

Luther pointed to the machine he'd ripped out. He pointed to himself. He waved in general at everything around him.

Nik sighed. "Well, unless I open up the ceiling, you can't get out..."

Luther grinned suddenly at the sight, and it might be possible to guess from his expression that he thought fluffy-Nik was kinda adorable.

Luther grinned at him, reaching over and stroking Nik's hair for a moment. Deciding to try out his vocal cords again, he spoke. "Yuuer kyuut iyk ffvaat."

Luther sighed. And he'd hoped that he'd been able to be getting through. He cleared his throat and licked his lips, hoping that would help, and tried again. "Yuuor ffuffee," he said. "Kyuut. Ww...lyk bu-bubbi buurrid."
