Nik gasped when the human grabbed him by the ankle, and he screeched very bird-like for a moment before thrashing wildly. "H-h-hey! Let go! Oh, PLEASE don't touch my wings!"

Luther made shushing sounds in the back of his throat, hoping to calm the birdboy down. Oddly enough, THAT didn't hurt. Alright, he wanted to say, I won't touch your wings. But though he tried, Luther just couldn't get the sounds out.

He whimpered a bit, his wings still flapping as he looked at the human with wide eyes, gulping nervously before forcing himself to calm down a bit, his heart beating like a hummingbird's. "You...won't hurt me...will you...?"

Luther shook his head. He wasn't planning to, anyway. Gently, Luther shifted his hand so that if his tiny captive stopped struggling, he could rest on it. He did not, however, relinquish his hold on the bird's ankle.

Nik took a breath, and soon stopped struggling, resting lightly on the human's hand, probably weighing no more than a marshmallow thanks to his hollow bones to give him the ability to fly. "J-just...be careful...m-my bones can break easily..."

Luther nodded, bringing him closer. Now that Nik was simply sitting on his hand, Luther adjusted his grip on him. He was still firm, but gentle. Using a few more fingers, Luther now held the small winged boy by his entire lower leg.

He took a breath when the human shifted his grip, his tiny heart racing in his chest as the human gently held him by his entire lower leg, at least up to the knee, looking at the human with wide eyes, flapping and folding his wings nervously. "So...um...I'm Nik...do...do you have a name...?"

Luther nodded once more, and tried to say it, but again he just couldn't get his mouth to form the right sounds. His tongue felt swollen... Luther sighed. He still couldn't talk. He wanted to be able to talk. He wanted to know what was going on.

He thought a moment. "Hmm...with more than three thousand years of being frozen, your vocals may have gotten messed up...can you MOUTH your name? So I can read your lips?"

Luther nodded and tried again. His lips felt a bit stiff, though, snd if he'd been able to make sound, he probably would have had a severe lisp.

He smiled softly. "Maybe instead we should find a temporary name for you, or I can try to guess your name..."

Luther nodded, and then waited with an expectant air.

Nik thought a moment. "Hmm...what do you think of the name...Simon?"

Luther shook his head, making a face.

He laughed. "Okay, that's a no~! How about...Fred? Or George? Maybe Zeke?"

Luther shook his head again. He mouthed his own name. Maybe Nik would get it this time?

Nik brightened when he mouthed something. "Luth...huh?" He furrowed his brow, then his eyes widened. "Wait...Luth...Luther...? Is that your name?"

Luther nodded, grinning. He brought Nik a bit closer to his face, starting to sit up.

Nik gulped nervously when he was brought to the human's face, looking around in alarm when the human started to sit up

Luther still felt very stiff, but less so. He sat up the rest of the way, holding Nik close so that he wouldn't accidentally hurt the little fellow.

Nik whimpered, squirming around a bit. "Can you let me go now?"

Luther looked down at him, biting his lip. He really didn't want to... he was afraid that Nik might try to leave him.

Nik sighed, seeing the human bite his lip, then got an idea. "If I promise to stay...will you let go?"

Luther hesitated, and then, finally, nodded.

He sighed softly, his wings flapping. "Alright...I won't leave you alone...I promise..."

Nik sighed in relief, quickly flapping his wings and hovering his hand

Luther let out a dismayed sound, reaching up towards Nik again.

Nik laughed a bit, flying toward Luther and landing on his head. "Hey, it's okay...I'm not leaving..."

Luther started to look up, but stopped when he realized just how useless that would be. Dropping his hands into his lap, he sighed.

Nik frowned, then slid down to Luther's nose. "You okay?"

Again, Luther had to cross his eyes, and he reached up towards Nik again to pull him off, not yet answering.

Nik sensed his hand behind him, sighing. "Again with the grabbing?"

Gently, Luther grasped Nik by the waist, pulling him off his nose. Holding Nik in a cupped hand, the human tried to explain with gestures that it was uncomfortable to have the birdboy so close to his face.

Nik frowned, then shook his head. "I don't understand..."

Luther sighed. Tapping the bridge of his nose where Nik had been perched, he made a face. Shaking his head, ha tapped the same place again, then pointed to Nik.

Nik frowned, then brightened. "Oh...you don't like things touching your nose?"

Luther hesitated. Should he accept that answer? It was close... But he shook his head. That wasn't the issue. Wondering if his vocal cords were still messed up, Luther tried to say it. "Ee urs ei eiis."

He frowned. "What?" He asked, not understanding Luther at all

Luther sighed. Then his eyes brightened, and, setting Nik on his knee, he made a motion as though writing. If they spoke the same language, didn't it follow that they'd have the same written language?

He frowned a bit, then asked "Writing? You wanna write?"

Luther nodded, glad that he'd actually been understood this time.

"I don't think there's a pen or pencil big enough for you to use..." He said softly

Luther's face fell. Drat. He looked down to see if maybe the floor was dusty enough to write on and was startled to notice that he was sitting in a large puddle of water.

He thought a moment. "Hmm...so we can't really do charades anymore...and no writing utensils your size..." He said, then noticed Luther's expression when he looked down. "Water wouldn't work either..."

But maybe it would. Luther dipped one finger in the water, then leaned over to a dry part of the floor, sliding his finger along it. It made a mark. Grinning, Luther quickly wrote, 'you sure?'

Nik's eyes widened, then smirked. "Clever human, aren't you?" He asked, looking up at Luther

Luther grinned down at him. Now, to write what he'd been trying to tell him earlier... 'Don't be so close to my face,' he wrote. 'It hurts my eyes.' He had to rewet his finger several times, and to his mortification, the beginning of the message had dried before he could finish. He could only hope Nik had managed to read it already...

Luther gave him a smile, hoping that there were no hurt feelings. He held out his hand towards Nik.
